Sleep - why is it so important?

March 19th is World Sleep Day, hosted by the World Sleep Society, the annual awareness event was started by a group of dedicated healthcare providers and members of the medical community working and studying in the area of sleep medicine and research.

Research shows that we spend up to one-third of our lives sleeping. Sleep is a basic human need, much like eating and drinking, and is crucial to our overall health and well-being.

Three elements of good quality sleep are:

  • Duration:The length of sleep should be sufficient for the sleeper to be rested and alert the following day.
  • Continuity:Sleep periods should be seamless without fragmentation.
  • Depth:Sleep should be deep enough to be restorative.

My Time.... Communication is key!

Throughout the pandemic, we have heard from the media, healthcare providers and leaders about the importance of communicating with eachother, remote working has brought a whole host of challenges and opportunities to change the way we communicate and it was early last year we saw the traditional PDR process evolve and My Time was launched.

Regular My Time and annual My Time EXTRA meetings can take place at anytime, and the suggested forms provide a structure for the one-to-one sessions. You can find a copy of these on the HR portal or by emailing hradminteam@caerphilly.gov.uk
