Debt Awareness Week

Debt Awareness Week - Talking Helps

Debt Awareness Week is all about destigmatising debt. Step Change, a debt charity offering free support, want to help people feel comfortable asking for the help they need, and ease any worries they may have about being judged, or feeling ashamed or embarrassed.

With many concerned about the rising cost of living, and feeling the financial strain as a result of the pandemic, it’s never been more important to let people know that free debt help is available.

How can we help?

Did you know Housing tenants have access to free advice through our Financial Inclusion Service?

Our Financial Inclusion Officers can help support you in many ways from help with Benefits, debts and budgeting issues.

Supporting Documents for Housing Applications

Did you know that on the Broxtowe HomeSearch website you can upload your supporting documents straight onto your application?

It’s quick and easy and can mean that your application will be assessed so you can bid for a new home quicker. Supporting documents can include ID documents, proof of income, information from a medical professional or any other information that is requested by us or you think is important for the assessment of your application.

There's no longer any need to deliver them into the offices.  No scanner? Don’t worry, a clear photograph should be fine, we will let you know if there are any problems with it.

Improving Well Being Through Food

Residents enjoying sycamore dinning lunch

The Activities Co-ordinators have welcomed back Sycamore Dining into Independent Living schemes, to provide affordable meals for tenants.

Sycamore Dining is a Community Café, that provides affordable meals for the local community. Food is sourced through FareShare, a charity who source and redistribute quality, in date surplus food.

Sycamore Dining recognises the value of social dining in combating loneliness and social isolation, but found transport to venues could be a barrier for older people. They extended their service to Independent Living Schemes; working with Nottingham City Homes, Places for People, Anchor Hanover and more recently Broxtowe Borough Council. Food is freshly prepared, delivered and served to tenants in the communal lounges of their own schemes.

Tenants are enjoying having the lunches back in their schemes, with one tenant telling us “I can’t wait for the next one, it’s so great for us to have these regular meals back again.”

How to Report a Repair

Collection of hand held repairs tools

Need a repair? Report it straight away. Try not to save them up, as it's most likely they won’t all be done at the same time, as different skilled operatives will be needed for the work.
