COVID-19 Updates

The announcement of the Autumn and Winter Plan last week came with a reminder to continue with the measures to keep each other safe and stop the spread of Covid-19.

Did you know ventilation is one of those important measures?

When a person infected with Covid-19 coughs, talks or breathes, they release droplets and aerosols that another person can breathe in.

Meeting others outdoors is the safest option, but if you’re indoors, you should let fresh air in to improve ventilation reduce the risk of catching or spreading Covid-19.

Children aged 12-15 will be offered the COVID-19 Vaccination

The expected high standards of safety , quality and efficacy for COVID019 remain the same as for any other medicine or vaccine

People aged 12 to 15 in England will be offered one dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, following advice from the 4 UK Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), the Health and Social Care Secretary announced on Monday 13 September.

Parental, guardian or carer consent will be sought by vaccination healthcare staff prior to vaccination in line with existing school vaccination programmes.

Healthy school-aged children aged 12 to 15 will primarily receive their COVID-19 vaccination in their school with alternative provision for those who are home schooled, in secure services or specialist mental health settings.

COVID-19 Boosters

Someone having a vaccination

Those who are most vulnerable to COVID-19 are now being offered a vaccine booster.

This follows the JCVI advice and will help ensure that protection from the first and second doses is maintained over winter.

The programme will be rolled out to the same priority groups as previously. This means care home residents, health and social care workers, people aged over 50, those aged 16 to 49 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe COVID-19, adult carers, and adult household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals will be prioritised.

However, there will be flexibility in the programme, allowing all those eligible to receive their booster from 6 months after their second doses. This approach will allow more vulnerable people to be given their boosters quicker.
