Adaptations by Capital Works

Bedroom and Wet room for tenant

The Adaptations team in Capital Works are here to support council tenants who need adaptations to their properties.

They help identify their needs and assist in finding and adapting properties.

Working closely with Housing and Occupational Therapists they aim to provide improved living accommodation for those in need, so that they can retain dignified independence as much as possible.

The team is currently in the process of extending 2 properties.

In Watnall, an extension will provide a wet room and a bedroom allowing the tenant to have their independence and comfort.

The tenant said, 'This will make all the difference in the world to all of us, I will have the privacy of a bedroom to sleep in. This will be fantastic for all of us, as the children will also have a lounge that isn’t part bedroom!'

Example of outside space created by Capital Works

In Eastwood an extension will provide ground floor facilities for a child, due to disabilities. They will have their own bedroom and wet room as well as access to the rear garden to play with their siblings.

The tenant said 'My child will have their own independence for as long as they are able, they can shower without assistance and have their own space downstairs as well as going to the garden easily.

As my child gets progressively worse as predicted, we will be able to carry on as normal, as all the adaptations, including hoists will all be in place ready for this, we couldn’t ask for more and are very excited about the extension and what a difference it will make to us all as a family”

International Day of Older Persons

Friday 1st October

Group of older people cartoons standing in a line smiling

On the 1st October we celebrate and appreciate our older generation. The theme for this year is 'Digital Equity for All Ages'.

The pandemic resulted in more people getting online and learning how to use new technological devices. However, as more people connect, new risks have become apparent. It is important that people know how to be safe online and ensure their personal details are secure.

Being able to access online services can help people in so many beneficial ways, from keeping in touch with loved ones, to being able to order essential supplies.

Organisations, such as Inspire Learning can help with practical courses to help people get online, including:

  • Keeping Safe Online: Apps, Privacy & Transacting
  • Understanding the Digital World
  • Coding for Beginners

Home Security Month this October.

National Home security web banner

We’re proud to be supporting National Home Security Month this October. Helping to raise awareness around the importance of good security amongst homeowners, especially as the dark nights draw in.

According to recent data from the Office for National Statistics, 76% of domestic burglars in England and Wales accessed a property through a door, and in 24% of cases where entry was gained, the door was unlocked.

Check how safe and secure your property is by downloading Home Security Checklist

For more information on National Home Security Month visit their website.
