Broxtowe will reach STEP 4 from Monday
The Government has announced that England will officially reach STEP 4 of the Covid Recovery Roadmap on Monday 19th July 2021.
This will mean further changes to how businesses continue to operate safely during the pandemic, with many of the COVID-Secure measures which are currently mandatory under law, moving to 'guidance' status.
Some of the changes include:
- No legal restrictions on social distancing within businesses, with the limit on those seated together as groups and a requirement for table service all removed;
- The Government will no longer be instructing people to work from home if they can, and would expect and recommend a gradual return to businesses over the summer;
- The Government expects and recommends that people still wear face coverings in crowded areas such as public transport;
- Government supports businesses that may wish to continue encouraging customers outside or letting fresh air in, to further reduce the spread of the virus;
- The Government will be encouraging and supporting businesses and large events to use the NHS Covid Pass in high risk settings. The Government will work with organisations directly, where people are likely to be in close proximity to others outside their household to encourage the use of this. If sufficient measures are not taken to limit infection, the Government will consider mandating certification in certain venues at a later date.
Further advice
- Businesses are also encouraged to continue displaying QR codes for customers wishing to check in using the NHS COVID-19 app, or to continue collecting customer contact details to support NHS Test and Trace, however this will no longer be a legal requirement.
- Businesses still have a legal duty to manage risks to those affected by their business. The way to do this is to carry out a health and safety risk assessment, including the risk of COVID-19, and to take reasonable steps to mitigate the risks you identify.
- It is advised that businesses continue to follow the 'Working Safely' guidance relevant to their venue/setting.

The search is on for Nottinghamshire’s Hidden Gems
Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) feedback shows that post-lockdown some areas of England are heavily saturated with visitors/tourists, whilst other areas of the country – mainly cities including Nottingham – are seeing low visitor numbers. Simply put, some areas of the country are struggling to cope with high demand, whilst other areas are seeing low demand – making the latter particularly vulnerable.
To tackle these variations, FSB’s England regions will run a #myhiddengems social media campaign. The aim is to encourage the general public to share their hospitality and tourism hidden gems on social media, whether retail, a walk, a museum, anything they love under the tourism / visitor economy umbrella.
To kickstart the campaign FSB are asking their networks to share their hidden gems, which will be promoted and celebrated on FSB’s social media channels from Monday 19 July to early September 2021.

Call-out for litter-pick volunteers
Discarded litter across the Borough continues to be a challenge for us all to deal with and many of us are disappointed to see branded (and non-branded) takeaway items discarded without thought on streets in our towns, parks and other public places.
As part of the Council’s ‘Clean and Green’ campaign, we actively encourage volunteers to come forward and litter-pick in their local communities and offer people the tools and kit to support this.
How businesses can help
In a bid to keep our town centres clean, we now are extending the scheme to local businesses. Could you or some of your workforce spare some time each week to tidy up outside your premises or surrounding streets?
You may be a business that has a food or drink offer and suffer from littering around your premises. Or perhaps you just want to give some time to smarten up the community you serve.
The Council can supply rubbish bags and litter-picking equipment. All we ask is that you leave the collected rubbish next to a designated Council bin for us to collect.
We really hope you can support us with this and we’d be happy to publicise your efforts if you can supply some photos.

5G Focus Groups
Businesses across Nottinghamshire are invited to participate in a Zoom Focus Group with other senior decision makers in Nottinghamshire-based businesses.
What are these groups for?
The purpose of these groups is to understand how businesses regard digital technologies and their potential future application to support business success.
Each individual taking part in a focus group, will also receive an Amazon e-voucher worth £60.
Who runs each focus group?
Nottinghamshire County Council have commissioned the independent research agency Habit5, who are accredited as a Company Partner by the Market Research Society (MRS) to run these focus groups. Each of which will last no more than 90 minutes.
When will these groups meet?
Between 27th-29th July 2021

 Skills Access Hub
Businesses can now access free impartial advice from experienced Skills Advisors and develop action plans to close skills gaps within the workforce.
The plan could focus on upskilling the existing team, or look at ways to bring new skills and capacity into the business via apprenticeships, Kickstart, internships and/or graduate placements.
The dedicated team of Skills Advisers work with businesses on a one-to-one basis, to ensure support it tailored and responsive to business needs.

The Skills Access Hub is a 3-year project, part-funded by the European Social Fund, that offers skills advice and brokerage support to small and medium sized businesses based across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire (D2N2).
Grant to help businesses tackle domestic abuse
Employers across Beeston and Chilwell can access help to support workers affected by domestic abuse thanks to a grant awarded to Broxtowe Women's Project (BWP) from The Rotary Club of Beeston.
With the grant of £1,000, BWP, which works across the Borough and beyond to support people affected by domestic abuse, will help local businesses focus on what they can do to address the problem.
