International stop food waste day April 28th 2021

Food wastage contributes to climate change. In the UK, 6.7 million tonnes of food end up wasted per year which costs about £10 billion annually. That’s between £250 - £400 per household, each year which is about £7 per week!  If you would like more information on how to make your food go further check out food hate waste.

Litter uprising and champions inspiring!

litter picking

During the various lockdown periods, both staff and residents of Broxtowe have noticed more litter in our parks and open spaces as well as in our residential areas.  However, rather than sit back and do nothing, we have received an outstanding response from the residents of Broxtowe wanting to volunteer and litter pick!  Residents who have got involved have said how good it felt to help keep Broxtowe clean.

Unfortunately, litter is not just a problem Broxtowe faces alone, and luckily for us there is a local group called the Long Eaton Mess Collectors who have expanded their horizon to help litter pick in Broxtowe. We are now working together to help their group members who live in our Borough to clear the waste from their litter picking trips.

We are so proud to work together with everyone to keep Broxtowe a clean and tidy place to live. If you are keen to help keep our community clean and fancy doing a litter pick please contact recycling@broxtowe.gov.uk to see how we can help you!

Latest contamination facts: MRF Sample February 2021

From a sample load of 365 tonnes of recycling in February, the major contaminant being put in recycling bins were wrong plastics (15.04 tonnes).  Please remember that not all plastics are recyclable and as a Borough we can help get the contamination amount down by putting the right waste in the right bin.
