Tributes paid to the Duke of Edinburgh

prince philip

The ceremonial royal funeral for HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh will be held at St George’s Chapel, in the grounds of Windsor Castle, at 3pm on Saturday, 17 April. The event will be televised.

At 3pm, a minute’s silence will be held nationwide, in memory of the Duke. The country is currently in a period of national mourning, which will end on the day of the funeral.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mayor of Broxtowe, Councillor Janet Patrick said “On Saturday many of us will fall silent at 3.00pm to pay tribute to the duke of Edinburgh. The Duke made a remarkable  contribution to our nation during his many years as Her Majesty the Queen’s constant companion and Consort.

He will be fondly remembered, not only for his public service but also as a husband, father, grand-father and great-grandfather.”

In Nottinghamshire, an Evensong Including Prayers and Devotion to HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh will be held at Southwell Minster on Friday afternoon.

This will be live streamed on the Southwell Minster YouTube page

This service is by invitation-only due to COVID-19 restrictions and will include representatives of organisations throughout Nottinghamshire, and individuals who have a connection with the Duke himself, or one of the organisations he supported.

COVID-19 Updates

Remember to carry on social distancing

Space

With the reopening of Outdoor Hospitality, Retail and Health and Beauty it's important to stay alert and remember to:

  • Keep your 2m distance
  • Keep washing your hands for 20 seconds
  • Wear a face covering when inside
  • Be patient and follow business guidelines

Our local town centres are ready to welcome you back and it is important to try and support our local businesses across Broxtowe.

You can do this by shopping local, shopping safely and following government guidelines on social distancing, face coverings and regular hand washing.

Outside payments

contactless payment

If you are at a venue that serves alcohol as customers you will be required to order, be served and eat/drink while seated (even if no alcohol is ordered). Businesses should be taking payments from their customers at the table or at another outdoor location.

If you find yourself in a technical fault situation and it is not possible to take payment outdoors, you could be asked to go indoors and take the payment as a last resort. If you need to make a payment indoors please remember to wear a face covering unless exempt.

If the technical issues are re-occurring the venue may propose setting up a tab system to ensure their customers are not making multiple indoor payments during their time at the venue.

COVID-19 vaccination during Ramadan

ramadan

Two leading Muslim figures working in the NHS have today joined other medical leaders and Islamic scholars in stressing that Ramadan should not stop anyone from getting the NHS COVID vaccination.

Dr Farzana Hussain said: “Getting an injection does not break the fast as it’s not nutrition and so there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t have it if you are eligible and have been invited for your Covid-19 vaccine and those scheduled for their second dose, should take it."

The British Islamic Medical Association, an affiliate of the Muslim Council of Britain, has issued specific advice, recommending the vaccine and insisting it is okay to have during Ramadan as it is not nutritional, nor does it contain any animal or foetal products.

Chance to bid for new funding for projects helping people back into work

chance to bid

Does your organisation have a current project or an idea aimed at boosting  the economy, particularly one which helps Nottinghamshire residents affected by the pandemic back into work?

Our county is set to benefit from a share of the Government’s £220 million UK Community Renewal Fund which aims to help local communities most in need, by improving skills, breaking down the barriers to employment and supporting local businesses.

This funding is for revenue-based projects such as skills-based training, business support and advice and helping individuals into work, so isn’t designed for new buildings, refurbishments or equipment.

We are looking for any intention to bid for this money by this Friday 16 April by 5pm by emailing CRFNottinghamshire@nottscc.gov.uk with a 200 word (maximum) summary of your organisation’s potential bid and your contact details.

Deadline to submit full and final bids is by noon Friday 7 May.

Broxtowe Ramblers back together

Broxtowe Ramblers

Local Ramblers are encouraging people to join them as they start their regular group walks again. Broxtowe Ramblers are part of the Ramblers UK national walking charity. As such, they are COVID secure and can walk in slightly larger groups than are generally permitted.

Each walk is led by an experienced ‘rambler’ who will have previously walked and ‘risk-assessed’ the route; details of everyone who joins a walk are securely recorded for track and trace purposes, so you can feel safe when walking with them.

You don’t have to be a member to join a Broxtowe Ramblers walk - so why not visit their website and see what is on offer?

mowing

Our parks and open spaces are generally mown every two weeks from April to October, depending on weather conditions. This is to create accessible open spaces that are attractive and provide space for people to enjoy active recreation in Broxtowe.

Mowing is undertaken for a number of reasons:

  • To create accessible green spaces
  • To help with safety by cutting vegetation at road junctions
  • To make areas feel more welcoming and appealing

There are nearly 200 hectares of parks and open spaces to maintain in Broxtowe. Not all these are grass areas but this puts in perspective the areas that need to be maintained.
