Community testing - launching in Stapleford next week
 Testing will be available for those who are asymptomatic. You don't need to book an appointment, just turn up for your free test.
Community Testing opens at 1pm on Thursday 25th February and then:
- Sundays - Closed
- Mondays - Closed
- Tuesdays - 8am - 6pm
- Wednesday - 7am - 5pm
- Thursdays - 8am - 6pm
- Fridays - 8am - 6pm
- Saturday - 8.30am - 1.00pm
1 in 3 people with COVID-19 have no symptoms so could be spreading the disease without knowing it. We are broadening testing to identify those showing no symptoms but who have COVID-19, so we can find positive cases more quickly and break chains of transmission.
Getting tested is a really easy way to help keep loved ones, work mates and our community safe.
The testing is open to anyone, working age, not showing symptoms of COVID-19 or who hasn’t tested positive in the last 90 days.
The rapid turnaround tests supplied by NHS Test and Trace and generate a result in under an hour, sent to the resident’s phone via text.
If you have COVID-19 symptoms, you should book a COVID-19 test via the NHS Test and Trace service - book a test online or call NHS Test and Trace on 119.

Community testing for businesses
Businesses are encouraged to promote the new facility in Stapleford to their staff members, particular those who are unable to work from home, which will help identify cases and keep their workforce safe.

You might want to talk to us about pre-booking a regular slot for your business at our community testing site. To explore this option please contact press@broxtowe.gov.uk and your request will be passed to the project team.
Why are we testing?
Around one in three people who are infected with COVID-19 have no symptoms so could be spreading the disease without knowing it. Broadening testing to identify those with COVID-19, but showing no symptoms, will mean finding positive cases more quickly, and break chains of transmission.
With its targeted approach, community testing aims to reduce the prevalence of the virus in the highest risk areas. We believe this testing will be vital, particularly for adults in our community who cannot work from home.
Vaccination booking opens for next group
 In line with national guidance, we have now opened COVID-19 vaccination booking for people who are identified in JCVI cohort 6.
This includes:
- Anyone between the ages of 16 to 65 with underlying health conditions which put them at a higher risk of serious disease or mortality. This is also known as “clinically vulnerable.” More details about who is eligible can be found on the NHS Cohort 6 Go Live FAQ document.
- Anyone who is in receipt of carer’s allowance.
- Anyone who is the main carer of an elderly or disabled person, whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill.
If you are eligible under one of the above categories, you can book your COVID-19 vaccination appointment by visiting this booking link: https://www.swiftqueue.co.uk/nottinghamc19v-clinv.php or call the local booking line on 0115 883 4640 between 8am – 8pm during weekdays and 9am – 5pm on weekends.
Younger adults in long-stay in-patient, nursing and residential care settings are also eligible for vaccination under cohort 6 but will be vaccinated by our ‘roving team’ of vaccinators. The roving team will be with in touch with care homes directly to book in dates for vaccinations.
If you are not eligible for vaccination, please do not try to book in for your COVID-19 vaccination appointment. It is important these appointments are protected for those who are now eligible under this cohort to help protect them against COVID-19.
Letters and texts to those eligible under the criteria, have also been sent to invite them to book for their COVID-19 vaccination. If you are eligible, you do not need to wait for your letter to book in.
Local people support vaccine programme
 Local people are encouraging others in the community to book their vaccine appointments once they are invited to do so.
Councillor Janet Patrick, Mayor of Broxtowe said:
"Some of us have had COVID-19, some of us know someone who has and some of us have had to go through the devastation of losing a loved one to the virus.
Even if we haven’t experienced it ourselves, we have been impacted by the restrictions over the last year which have changed how we live our lives.
My age group was recently invited for their COVID-19 vaccinations and I have since had my jab.
It only took a few minutes out of my day but it has got me one step closer to hugging my grandchildren and being with all my family. We are scattered in Scotland, Wales and England!
Please for yourself and for those you love, book your vaccination once you are invited to have it."
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue have also recorded a special video in different languages to encourage local residents who are English speaking and non-English speaking to come forward for their vaccines.
New technology to help identify those at high risk from COVID-19
New technology has been introduced in England to help clinicians identify, for the first time, a new group of people who may be at high risk from COVID-19. Over 800,000 adults will now be prioritised to receive a vaccine as part of the current vaccination cohorts.
The technology analyses a combination of risk factors based on medical records, to assess whether somebody may be more vulnerable than was previously understood, helping clinicians provide vaccination more quickly to them and ensuring patients can benefit from additional advice and support.
Up to 1.7 million patients have been identified. Those within this group who are over 70 will have already been invited for vaccination and 820,000 adults between 19 and 69 years will now be prioritised for a vaccination.
The patients identified through the risk assessment will be sent a letter from NHS England in the coming days explaining that their risk factors may help identify them as high clinical risk and that they are included within the support and advice for the clinically extremely vulnerable.
They will be invited to receive a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible if they have not already had the jab, and will be given advice on precautionary measures, including shielding where this is current advice. Their GPs are also being notified.

 Stapleford’s bid to boost its town centre was submitted to government in January 2021. A months-long consultation programme saw Stapleford residents play a key role in shaping plans to secure a £25m investment under the Government’s Town Fund.

Garden Waste Subscriptions Now Being Taken in Broxtowe
 Broxtowe residents are being reminded to subscribe early to the 2021/22 garden waste service to ensure their collections continue seamlessly into the new subscription period. New subscribers are also welcome to the scheme, which begins in April.
2021/22 subscription letters are being delivered to households in the Borough this week. The current subscription year ends on 2nd April 2021 and new prices for the upcoming year (5th April 2021 – 3rd April 2022) are as follows:
- £36 for 1 brown lidded bin
- £22 for each additional bin
The Council are encouraging residents to sign up before 15th March 2021 to ensure they receive their bins and/or stickers by the start date of 5th April 2021. Subscriptions made after 15th March 2021 can take up to 10 working days to be processed and therefore collections from 5th April 2021 cannot be guaranteed.
The Council’s garden waste service offers many benefits for residents including all-year round collections; a sustainable, environmentally-friendly alternative for garden waste disposal; and helps to avoid costly, time consuming visits to local Waste and Recycling sites.

If you develop symptoms of Covid-19, stay at home and self-isolate immediately. If you have a positive test result but do not have symptoms, stay at home and self-isolate as soon as you receive the results. Your household needs to isolate too.

If you have symptoms or a health concern you are worried about, please contact your GP practice. GP practices are still open and here for you. When you call your practice, you may be offered a consultation online or over the phone. If they feel they need to see you in person, they will invite you in for a face to face appointment.
