Housing Community Facebook Group

Facebook logo

Exciting news! COMING SOON in September 2020, Housing will be launching our ‘Housing Community Group’ on Facebook.

Open to all who receive a service from the Housing Department, this private group will enable you to share your opinions from the comfort of your home; during your daily commute, or whenever you have few moments to spare throughout the day. However and whenever you choose to share, we want to you to be part of the Housing Community Group.

The Housing Community Group will enable us to ask for your ideas and thoughts on services you receive and ensure your opinions are part of discussions when service improvements are being considered.

You will also get to hear about other ways you can get involved, including roles you can play within your communities.

What’s inside this private group? Our initial plans include polls, pictures, podcasts and Q&A sessions with staff plus much more. We’re also keen to hear how you want to see the group develop and will be asking for your thoughts on how the community should grow.

When you request to join the group, you will be asked to provide your full name, postcode and date of birth. This will make sure only our Housing Customers are accepted and help to ensure the group is a safe and welcoming environment.

Just like any other Facebook Groups, there are rules, please read these carefully when you request to join. More information to follow, as we prepare to go live with the group.

(Note: The group will not enable you to resolve issues personal to yourself and this must be done through contacting the Council in the usual way.)

Blooming Friendships

Tenants at cloverlands court gardening project

Tenants of Cloverlands Court, one of Housing's Independent Living Schemes, have come together (socially distanced) to create a beautiful garden for all tenants to enjoy.

'It's been great to have a project to focus on during this challenging time. We've brought the garden back to life and are proud of what we've achieved.

Since lockdown, the friendships have bloomed. As we've had more time to get to know either other. We now have nicknames: Monty Don, Charlie Dimmock and Alan Titchmarsh.' explains Claire, a tenant at Cloverlands Court.

Kathleen says 'We now come outside most days. Either to sit and chat, work on the garden or to share baked goods.'

'I'm relatively new to the scheme, so it's been really lovely to build new friendships whilst staying mentally and physical active by tending to the garden. I love it' said Janice.

Keep up the great work ladies, the garden looks fantastic!

Introductory Tenancies

Did you know that an Introductory Tenancy is granted to all our new tenants?

This means that for the first 12 months, the tenancy is not secure and could be extended, or terminated if the tenancy conditions are not being followed. However, there will still be rights in place to talk to us about any issues encountered and have repairs carried out to the property.

Throughout the first 12 months a Housing Officer will visit to check everything is going well. The Officer will carry out a property inspection, discuss rent and give tenants a chance to raise anything that may be concerning them.

After 9 months, the Council will complete a review of the Introductory Tenancy and make a recommendation as to whether it should become a Secure Tenancy.

For further information download the 'Introductory Tenancy - your tenancy explained' leaflet.

Homes at the Heart

Homes at the Heart

This August, the National Housing Federation have launched a campaign called #HomesAtTheHeart.

Our homes have never been more important to us than they have been during the COVID-19 crisis. This national campaign and coalition is calling for a once-in-a-generation investment in social housing.

Each week they will be focusing on different areas;

  • 3rd August - a stronger economy: Growth, jobs, skills
  • 10th August - making ends meet: Affordability and supply
  • 24th August - living well: Care, Support and Health
  • 7th September - a greener country: Decarbonisation and retrofit
  • 21st September - settled futures: Homelessness and temporary accommodation
  • 28th September - prosperous communities: 'Levelling Up'

On each of these days, we will share how we are supporting each area. Please look out for these on our social media platforms.

Show your support and get involved by visiting Homes at the Heart website.
