Message from the three party Leaders

"Dear residents, businesses and our wonderful Broxtowe community,

This week has been very different to what many of us would have expected just a few weeks ago. We are living in very challenging times and we are facing a very serious threat in Coronavirus.

We are incredibly proud of the way our community has rallied together to help support those in isolation, those who are vulnerable and to keep vital services running. The best of Broxtowe has been highlighted in the number of mutual aid groups established and the many people who have taken the time to ring in and thank our employees for all they are doing.

This positive action from the community has gone a long way to support the work the Council is doing with our partners to check in with our vulnerable or at risk residents and ensure they have everything they need – whether that’s essential supplies, medicines or just someone to talk to if they are feeling worried or lonely.

Our priority is to continue to provide essential services to you, our residents, businesses, community groups and partners. In order to do this and to protect you from the spread of COVID-19, we have had to close some of our other facilities. We have created a special Affected Services section on our website to help keep you up to date with the latest information on our services.

Our employees here at the Council are making us incredibly proud each day with the way they are going above and beyond to support residents, as well as each other. Their efforts so far have been tremendous and they remain dedicated to rising to this challenge.

As the weekend approaches, we urge you to take heed of the Government’s new measures to stay at home to help us protect our NHS and to save lives. Sadly, there are still people out there who are not following the advice and it’s vital that you persuade all your friends and family to follow the measures without delay.

It’s very simple - Stay Home, Save Lives."

How to apply for business grants

Broxtowe Borough Council has written to all small and medium sized businesses who could be eligible for Small Business Grants or Retail, Hospitality and Leisure grants.

It is expected that the first payments will start to be received by businesses on 10 April 2020.

More information about the schemes, how to apply and information about other business support available is available on our website.

Funerals

We want to highlight the new measures on funeral attendance.

We understand that bereavements are a very difficult time for families and friends.

However, in the challenging times we are in, we must follow the Government’s measures which say that a maximum of 10 people can attend funeral services.

This is for everyone’s safety to help stop the spread of the virus to ensure we all keep as healthy as possible. These measures will constantly be reviewed but for now this is something we must enforce.

What to do with your waste and recycling

Disposing of Bulky items

All 12 of Nottinghamshire's recycling centres are now closed - in Broxtowe, this affects Giltbrook Recycle Centre and Beeston Recycle Centre.

Please do not place any waste you would normally take to a recycling centre in your kerbside bin. Instead, store this safely until the centres re-open.  Please continue to recycle domestic waste into your bins as advised.

Bring Site Recycling

Please do not take items to one of the car park recycling banks, including glass, tetrapacks, books and clothing.

Instead, store this safely until the Stay At Home measures have been lifted.

Self-isolation Waste

Households that are self-isolating should follow the UK Government's advice on disposal of waste:

  • Store personal waste such as used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths securely within disposable rubbish bags.
  • Place these bags into another bag, tie securely and keep separate from other waste.
  • These bags should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual external general waste bin.
  • Please dispose of your other household waste as normal.

It is more important than ever to ensure that recycling is clean and dry and that rubbish bags are all securely tied to help prevent spills and protect our collection teams and the public.

Waste and Recycling Service

We may begin to see staff shortages and perhaps delays on services such as missed bins, bin delivery’s and other parts of our service to Broxtowe Borough residents.

We apologise for this and are working hard to make the priority services run as normal.

As far as bin collections are concerned, please put your recycling or household waste bin out as usual and we'll collect as usual.

Please see below on how to stay up date to affected Council services.
