Free NHS remote monitoring service for older people

TIHM

The Technology Integrated Health Management (TIHM) Monitoring Service is a free of charge, remote monitoring service that is increasing support for older people across Surrey, North East Hampshire and Farnham, and Bracknell Forest, Slough, Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead. It is available to people of any age who have been diagnosed with dementia or mild cognitive impairment and people aged 65 and over who have a diagnosis of depression and/or anxiety. Regular carers supporting people who qualify for TIHM will also be offered the Service.

The TIHM Monitoring Service combines a small package of easy-to-use remote monitoring devices that are installed in people's homes collecting information about health and wellbeing, with a dedicated NHS Monitoring Team that is clinically led. The collected health data is automatically analysed by the technology and if health or wellbeing issues are detected, an alert is flagged on a digital dashboard overseen by the Monitoring Team. The Team will investigate the alert and provide the necessary support and advice.

This is an important service designed to reassure people and help identify signs of ill-health early on so that prompt advice and support is provided. The TIHM Monitoring Service is based on an award-winning system, known as TIHM (Technology Integrated Health Management) for dementia that has been developed by Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, the University of Surrey and smart home monitoring provider, Howz.

People can apply directly by completing a self-referral form or they can call: 0800 448 0786

Carers UK want to hear your experiences of being a carer in 2022

carers

Carers UK are launching their State of Caring 2022 survey to help paint a comprehensive picture of what life is like for carers at the moment, the challenges you might face, and the impact caring has on your finances, health, and well being.

In this survey they will be asking you to tell them what life is like now, and what needs to change. Your responses will enable Carers UK to be more focused in their work and to communicate to decision makers what really matters to you.

This is the most extensive survey into carers' experiences in the UK. As a result, it may take 20-30 minutes to complete - so grab a cuppa and get comfy!

Any comments you provide will not be identified as yours unless you give them permission to contact you and they get agreement from you to do so. This survey is confidential and your personal details will never be passed onto a third party. Carers UK will publish the anonymised results of this survey

The survey will close on 11 September and they will be releasing a research report in November.

Yateley Men's Shed

men in shed

I had the pleasure of visiting this lovely group recently and found it to be a safe and friendly environment where men are able to work on meaningful projects, at their own pace, in their own time, in the company of other men.

A major objective of this group is to advance the wellness and health of their male members by reducing their social isolation and increasing their social engagement

Many older men will have been used to working with their hands, be it for their work or for a hobby. Some will enjoy having the opportunity to handle tools and bang, twist, screw etc using the tactile actions that would have been familiar. This is especially useful for anyone living with dementia as the actions may trigger positive memories, help encourage conversation and sharing experiences with others in a similar situation.

One man that I spoke to started attending the Men’s Shed regularly and slotted in immediately. He told me that it was so much more, then just making things. He enjoys it very much and the other members said he is an asset to the Shed.

The men's shed have a range of products and materials that do the job, to get the men involved and chatting together, over a cuppa!

For more information and to find your local shed please contact Men's Shed Association
