The Summer Reading Challenge, presented by The Reading Agency and funded by Arts Council England, encourages children aged 4 to 11 to join the reading challenge. This year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme is Wild World Heroes, created in partnership with WWF and illustrated by award-winning children’s author and illustrator Heath McKenzie.
Launch date - Saturday 10 July
Wild World Heroes will inspire children to explore ways of helping to save the planet, with a focus on taking action for nature and tackling real-world environmental issues, from plastic pollution and deforestation to wildlife decline and nature loss. Through taking part in the Challenge, children will be able to join the Wild World Heroes to help solve some of these threats, learning about the importance of the environment while helping to restore nature levels in the neighbourhood of ‘Wilderville’.

A magical, uplifting story and page-turner!
Thank you to E.L.Williams for kindly donating copies of her first novel The First Ethereal. You can find Emma's book at these local libraries. The ebook is also available unlimited on BorrowBox so there are no waiting lists to read on your phone or tablet.
The apocalypse is coming…and not everyone wants to stop it. Only the First Ethereal can decide whether there is enough good left in humanity to save it.
In the charming Welsh market town of Pont Nefoedd, Lilly is living her last human life. With only her spirit guide Jack for company, and the world collapsing around them, it’s almost too much for a super empath.
When Lilly meets café owner Storm, a widowed ex-witch who’s lost her powers, everything changes. The dream is dire. The keeper of the magical library confirms it. How will they stop the prophecy? Will the friends find the First Ethereal in time? And there’s another problem…someone hunts the First Ethereal.
Online book group
We're looking forwarding to chatting about The First Ethereal on Thursday 29th July at 7pm on Zoom during the next meeting of our online book group. Book your place on Eventbrite.
