World Book Day 2019

What a wonderful place the library is and it is still free to join. With 9 public libraries in Bracknell Forest there are so many events and opportunities. "Knowledge is power" according to the Manic Street Preachers and what greater gift to give than a lifelong passion for reading and learning. There is so much to celebrate this World Book Day, which falls on Thursday 7th March. Take a look at some of the great events your libraries have planned to celebrate books.

Harry Potter at Whitegrove Library

 

After running two sell out Harry Potter events we have added another. This time the wizardry fun will be held at Whitegrove Library on World Book Day - Thursday 7th March, 6-7pm. Dressing up is optional and prizes are given for best costumes. Book in advance by calling Whitegrove Library on 01344 424211. 

Harry Potter creative writing competition for children

Have you submitted your entry yet? Write a short story using these 3 prompts; a wizard, a pet and a mysterious land! 500 words maximum. Prizes for the most creative entries!

Please send your entries in person to Bracknell Library or email.

Closing date- Thursday 7th March. Please include name, age and contact details.

Little Buddies

Tuesday 5th March
Little Buddies meet at Bracknell Library for a Gruffalo themed storytime with crafts and rhymes. All children 0-5 are welcome!

Saturday 9th March
A special animals stories, rhymes and crafts session at Bracknell Library. Make your own animal face mask! 10.30am-12pm. £1 per child. Ages 3-7. Book at the Library or call 01344 423149 or email.

Thursday 7th March - World Book Day Fancy Dress Competition. Prizes for the best dressed children to turn up to any of these libraries on World Book Day at:

  • Ascot Heath Library
  • Binfield Library 
  • Birch Hill Library
  • Harmans Water Library

Saturday 2nd March - Match It! Competition

Match It! is a card game with a difference. Match book covers from around the library to posters on the walls. Follow the clues and match up covers - it's a bit like snap but different! It is free to play all week at Sandhurst and Crowthorne Libraries from Saturday 2nd March onwards.

Staff will also be dressed up as literary characters at both libraries on Saturday 2nd March, try and guess who they are meant to be!

Poetry Juke Box


Poetry Juke Box - presented by Crowthorne's very own Bard of Bracknell on Thursday 14th March. Just turn up anytime 2pm-5.30pm and ask for a silly poem, a daft joke or a tricky tongue twitster and the Bard will not disappoint! Come and join the fun and have a laugh to help fill the big red bucket for Red Nose Day.

Explore Learning

Exciting news for young writers! Explore Learning Writer's Awards Workshop is on Thursday 14th March 4pm-5pm at Crowthorne Library. Sign up your budding young authors to this free creative writing workshop before places run out. Call Crowthorne Library on 01344 776431.

At Great Hollands Library on Wednesday 6th March there will be puzzles and quizzes for ages 6-10 years and book review templates for all ages!

Author visits

It is great to meet authors and find out what inspired them to write and find out how they first got published. We have author events all the time, check out our some of our events coming soon.

Binfield's very own author in residence will be visiting Binfield Library on Thursday 7th March at 10.30am. For World Book Day Judith will be reading Happy Birthday Vana and answering customer questions. Free, no need to book.


An evening with SM Porter 

Thursday 14th March, 5.45pm-6.45pm at Bracknell Library
Local author, archaeologist and roman coin specialist, who loves fencing and motorcycling, SM Porter has promised to bring a great selection of artefacts to look at. A captivating evening is expected!
