Coral Reef Waterworld January 2017 Update

New iSlides arrive @ Coral Reef Waterworld

New Coral Reef iSlides

Hi everyone, and welcome to the third Coral Reef Waterworld refurbishment newsletter, keeping you updated on our progress so far.

They’re here, our brilliant, new, state-of the art waterslides have touched down at Coral Reef!
The sections of our fantastic five flumes have been shipped over from the factory of our expert manufacturers Van Egdom in the Netherlands.
The sections will be put together and installed over the coming months, ready to thrill and amaze visitors when we reopen this summer.
The five new slides will have something for everything – there’ll be a combination of dual and single ride slides; some will have rafts while others will be body slides; they’ll range from a gentle meandering long ride to a short, dynamic, fast slide. And, for the first time, you, the rider, will be able to select interactive elements to personalise your experience.
Overall, the flumes will feature elements of fun, interactivity and, for the serious rider, competition.
Look out in the coming months for more details about the names of our new flumes and their astonishing interactive elements.

Work coming up

Where we are now

Changing Village

We’re getting to the stage now, excitingly, where we are seeing how the new Coral Reef will look, both inside and out, when it is all finished and we can throw open our doors once again.
Inside, the new changing village and Coconut Grove café will begin to have their walls tiled shortly.

RestaurantNew Flume Tower

Outside, work on creating the replacement roof for Coral Reef will begin in February and the new flume tower continues to rise gloriously from the ground where its predecessor once stood. By the time you read this, it should be more than halfway to it’s approximately 17.5m final height.

Speaking of the flumes .....

Marco Glorie

It is a small world for Marco Glorie, head of production at our flume manufacturers Van Egdom who has now gone full circle in his work with Coral Reef.
Marco, pictured to the right of the Director of Environment, Culture & Communities Vincent Paliczka, remarkably, was the headfitter of the company, Promoplast, which installed the three water slides at the original Coral Reef back in the late 1980s and has now played a key role in creating our thrilling new flumes!

From the archive

Now that we’re firmly looking forward to the reopening of Coral Reef Waterworld this summer, we’ve delved in to the archive from the official opening of the original Coral Reef back in October 1989.
Here, special guests and families are the enjoying the view from the pirate ship on opening day.
The ship didn’t receive its name – The Coralina – until the end of 2015.
