Beach hut

Beach hut bookings

Beach huts are available to book for the winter period from the beginning of October to the end of March 2019. You can book up to THREE DAYS in a row or spread over the period. There is a £5 booking fee per beach hut, per day.

Bookings will be taken from:
9am Monday 10th September - Sandbanks (for those needing flat access)
9am Tuesday 11th September - Alum Chine (steep sloped access)
9am Wednesday 12th September - Boscombe (one step and a ten minute walk to toilets)
Call the Carers Support Service on 01202 458204.

All calls will go to answerphone on this day, please leave just one message on the specified day with your required dates and an alternative number (preferably a mobile) for us to call you back. Any calls before 9am go to the back of the queue. 

Goodbye to Julie

We sadly say goodbye to Julie England at the end of October. We would like to thank her as she has done a fantastic job organising and hosting all our carers social events over the years. We hope some of you can join us to say goodbye and wish her all the best for the future as she hosts her last carers social event with us at the Halloween lunch.  We will continue to provide carers social events, and are looking at how these will be organised and hosted in the future.

Don’t forget the regular drop-in dates are always available, every Tuesday 2pm – 4pm or Friday 10am – 12noon.

All events are for carers only unless specified. You can book two events in total on a first come, first served basis. Should you wish to attend a third event, please check with us a week before the event to see if there is availability. How to book an event.

Julie England of Meridian Events (Bournemouth) Ltd organises and hosts our social events and will be there to welcome you. Julie’s mobile number is 07932 154544 and is only to be used on the day of an event.

Ten Pin Bowling

Bowlplex, 382 Poole Road, Branksome, Poole, BH12 1DA

Wednesday  26th September at 6.45pm

Join us for ten pin bowling at Bowlplex in Branksome. Two games and a soft drink included.

Exbury Gardens

Tuesday 23rd October

Day trip to Exbury Gardens for the glorious autumn colours.  A ghost train ride (£6) and 40 minute buggy rides (£5) are available for additional costs, payable at Exbury Gardens.

By Coach: Please arrive 5 minutes early 
Seldown Bridge Car Park next to Bus Station: 
  pick up 09.30am, drop off 5.00pm (approx).
Branksome Bus Stop outside John Lewis:

Winchester Day Trip

Sunday 30th September

Visit one of the UK’s largest Farmers Markets with over 80 producers. Alternatively, you can shop, visit the Cathedral, Great Hall (there is a small charge) or City Mill (National Trust).

Training for carers of people with Dementia

10am - 1pm at St Ambrose Cottage, Alumhurst Road, Westbourne, Bournemouth, BH4 8ER. 

Practical tips and guidance to assist with managing changes in cognition and behaviour associated with Dementia. Run by qualified health professionals. Course content includes helpful tips for communication and managing: general confusion, confused talk, low mood, apathy, anxiety and agitation.

Free Red Cross Everyday First Aid Training

Unit 1, Albany Business Park, Cabot Lane, Poole BH17 7BX or 
Meyrick Rise Care Home, 11-13 Branksome Wood Road, Bournemouth, BH2 6BT

First Aid training that could make a difference. By learning a few simple skills you will have the knowledge, support and confidence to help someone in an emergency. Intended for those who have not attended First Aid training recently.

Free Sailing taster session with Poole Sailability

Rockley Marina, Rockley Park, Poole, BH15 4LZ

Friday 14th September 10am – 1pm

Poole Sailability welcomes anyone with a disability and their carers to enjoy active sailing on the beautiful waters of Poole Harbour. Previous sailing experience is not necessary. They aim to accommodate most disabilities, but you should be able to board a boat unaided, or with limited physical assistance. Participants take part at their own risk and a medical form must be completed prior to sailing.

Alerts: Email scams

Be vigilant when you receive e-mails encouraging you to click on links as they may contain viruses that can harm your computer. Check the sender of the email to see if it comes from the company it claims and ensure your antivirus software is kept up to date. 

    BH Live discounts 

    BH Live offer discounts through their Access Scheme on cultural and leisure activities, services and products across their venues and centres. These are available to people on certain benefits, including Carers Allowance, Pension Credit, Universal Credit and other benefits.  Visit, or pop in to your local BH Live gym, in Poole there is one in Corfe Mullen.


    Dementia Friendly Screenings

    Lighthouse, 21 Kingland Road, Poole, BH15 1UG

    Funny Girl (1968) Wednesday 26th September 2pm

    The Jungle Book (1967) Wednesday 31st October 2pm

    Dementia friendly screenings are suitable for anyone, but specially adapted for people living with dementia, their families and friends. Films are screened in a supported and friendly environment with the lights up a little and the sound turned down a touch. There are always volunteers on hand, and a free hot drink and a biscuit for everyone! 

    Tickets cost £5 from the Lighthouse on 01202 280000 (this is a subsidised price so no further discounts). Please advise of any access issues when booking. There is limited disabled parking at the front of Lighthouse. To be kept informed of future dementia-friendly screenings, ask to join their mailing list.
