Free help for Bournemouth and Poole Carers

Bournemouth and Poole residents who are eligible (e.g. receiving certain benefits or with a long-term health condition) can apply for a visit from a Home Energy Advisor who can install free energy saving measures – such as smart extension leads, reflective radiator panels, low energy LED lightbulbs, draught-proofing to wooden windows and doors – and more if the home is suitable.

The Advisor can also give energy efficiency tips on how to set heating controllers to keep energy bills down, remind householders to check if they are on the cheapest energy tariffs, and even arrange confidential telephone advice on unclaimed benefits and grants from a money advice specialist.

Call now to apply for your free home visit on

0800 060 7567 (8.45am till 5.30pm, Monday to Friday) or to read more, check eligibility and apply online go to: www.bournemouth.gov.uk/leap

Carers Corner

Written by Carers for Carers

This is a poem sent into us by a carer

“An ordinary carer”

“Caring for my youngest who was born not so well, every day it can be heaven, each day it can be hell.

She needs me 24/7 I chose to home educate, her diet is so nutritious she tends to put on weight.

Her brain works much faster than her sturdy body does, she takes it out on me, she hits, she throws, she doth cuss!

Her DLA came back late, they have made their decision, she’s low to middle rate, we’re locked in money prison.

I’ve asked them to re-look, fought to make our case, relying on reports from ‘professionals’ tick tock, the time does race.

I get more & more stressed, it get’s harder every day, her father left 2 years ago, my mother recently passed away.

So if I look distraught and sad and lost, don’t judge me by yourself, we already pay the cost.

But, life can be HEAVEN, life it’s so grand, when I step out with my daughter, and she tightly holds my hand.

And when we go to bed, snug as a bug, I look into her eyes, and I all see is love!”
