Hollywood comes to Bolton- opening of the Light Cinema

Light Cinema Launch

The glitz and glamour of Hollywood came to Bolton on Thursday 21st October with the official launch of the new Light Cinema, the latest addition to the £20 million Market Place development in Bolton town centre. Local businesses attended the VIP launch where there was a chance to network as well as watch Never Go Back – the new Jack Reacher movie.

The Team Bolton Partnership supported The Light Cinema with their recruitment needs. 23 local job seekers undertook a tailored pre-employment training course with 19 out of the 23 who attended being employed.

Team Bolton offers a sliding scale of recruitment support which ranges from simply advertising your vacancy to delivering bespoke pre-employment training and is provided free of charge to local businesses.

If you are interested in hearing more about our Recruitment Support contact Business Bolton on 01204 336222 or email businessbolton@bolton.gov.uk.

What is the Apprenticeship Levy and Digital Apprenticeship Service?

Apprentice in work

As part of the Government’s plans to increase the number of apprenticeships, an Apprenticeship Levy will come into effect from April next year at a rate of 0.5% of an employer’s wage bill. The Levy will apply to employers who have an annual pay bill of over £3 million and will be offset by a £15,000 allowance. Public sector employers with more than 250 staff will need to ensure that 2.3% of their workforce are apprentices.

Digital Apprenticeship Service will be available from January and will support employers to select a Framework or Standard, choose a training provider and advertise and recruit apprenticeship vacancies.

The Team Bolton Partnership are holding a breakfast event to provide advice and guidance for businesses affected by the Apprenticeship Levy on 24th January 2017 at Bolton College. Details to follow but please save the date for now.

Further information including local support available from the Team Bolton Partnership will feature in future newsletters.

Town Centre Transformation

The Council and its partners continue to deliver the transformation of Bolton Town Centre with the following developments playing a key part.

The Newport Street Gateway is a £3 million development which will create a high quality pedestrian boulevard from the new Transport Interchange to the heart of the Town Centre. The scheme is focussing on upgrading shop fronts coupled with transforming the quality of the public realm. Works are currently underway in phased stages.

The £48 million development of the Transport Interchange nears completion and will co-locate the main Bolton Bus Station and Railway Station, due to open in 2017.

Churchgate has recently attracted a number of new investors with SpaMedica, a leading eye and medical centre currently refurbishing the former Travel House building and due to open early 2017. MCR Properties have also purchased Churchgate House and have attracted a number of new businesses to the newly refurbished offices, whilst Huntingdon House is being transformed into residential apartments.
