Back to school
Many of our young people return to school either next week or the week after.
Staff are busy preparing for the return to be as safe as possible.
The back to school and college campaign sets out the experience that students can ‘get back to’ from September, with restrictions such as bubbles eased to allow a full return to sport, music, drama, science experiments and being with their friends.
Schools and colleges are maintaining proportionate protective measures such as testing, ventilation and extra hygiene - precautions that help keep children and staff safe and minimise disruption to face-to-face education.
Secondary schools and colleges may offer tests on-site at the start of term, followed by continued regular testing at home. Students aged 16 and 17, as well as younger children aged 12-15 in certain eligible groups will also be encouraged to take up the offer of the vaccine.
If you are a parent or carer of a school aged child please watch out for more information from your child's school or college.

COVID-19 vaccine surveillance report
Today (26 August), Public Health England (PHE) has published its latest weekly COVID-19 vaccine surveillance report.
The latest estimates suggest that 105,900 deaths and 24,088,000 infections have been prevented as a result of the COVID-19 vaccination programme, up to 20 August.
The estimate was calculated by comparing the estimated impact of vaccination on infection and mortality against a worst-case scenario where no vaccines and no non-pharmaceutical interventions were in place to reduce infections and mortality.
Getting vaccinated continues to be the best way of protecting ourselves and our families and friends.
Antibody testing
Thousands of adults a day will be given free access to antibody tests through a new programme, to help improve our understanding of immunity against COVID-19 from vaccination and infection.
For the first time, the programme will offer antibody testing to adults in the UK who test positive. Anyone aged over 18 will be able to opt in to take part when booking a PCR test through NHS Test and Trace.
Up to 8,000 people who opt in and get a positive PCR result will be sent 2 finger prick antibody tests to complete at home and send back to a lab for analysis.
The data collected will help estimate the proportion of those who got COVID-19 despite developing antibodies as a result of having a vaccine or previously catching coronavirus.
If you're interested in taking part in the study remember - you must opt in when getting your PCR test.
Testing positive for antibodies does not mean someone is immune from COVID-19 and we must continue to follow the rules, get tested if we have symptoms and self-isolate if positive or are a contact of a positive case and have not received both vaccine doses, to prevent the virus from spreading.

Timetable of walk-in vaccination clinics across the district
Who can attend?
- Anyone aged 16 or over. Some clinics are for people of certain ages because of the type of vaccine being offered and some walk-in sites are offering the COVID-19 vaccine to people aged 16 and 17 – see below.
- Anyone who is due their second dose and had their first dose 8 weeks ago or there’s a clinical need for it to be earlier.
- If you already have an appointment booked, you can still get a jab at a walk-in clinic but please make sure you cancel your booked appointment so someone else can use it.
