Government changes COVID restrictions in some Bradford District wards
Some people in the Bradford District can now mix with other households in private homes and gardens again, whilst others cannot, the Government has announced today (Friday, 28 August).
From next Wednesday (2 September) the local restrictions the Government imposed on the whole Bradford District on 31 July will be relaxed in nine of the district’s 30 wards and brought into line with national restrictions. These are Craven, Ilkley and Worth Valley wards in the Keighley Parliamentary constituency and all six wards in the Shipley constituency – Baildon, Bingley, Bingley Rural, Shipley, Wharfedale and Windhill & Wrose.
But in the other 21 wards people will still be subject to tighter restrictions and will not be able to socialise with other households.
The tougher rules in those wards were introduced in Bradford, plus neighbouring Calderdale and Kirklees and parts of the North West, to try to control high COVID-19 infection rates and spread of the virus in those areas.
Additional restrictions put in place by Government across Bradford District – along with Blackburn with Darwen – which prevented the scheduled opening of indoor gyms, swimming pools, dance and fitness studios and other sports facilities on 1 August have also been lifted in the nine wards. Those businesses can now re-open as long as their operations are COVID Secure.
Coronavirus testing in Bradford District
Walk-in mobile testing units are available in community locations throughout the district. These testing units are a quick and easy way to get a coronations test with or without an appointment.
The units are available for anyone who has symptoms of COVID-19, such as a high temperature, a new cough, or a change in sense of taste or smell, or thinks they may have the virus.
Face coverings
You need to wear a face covering in lots of different places. This is now mandatory for everyone except children under 11 and those with certain disabilities.
Please see our website for more information about face coverings including a short video by Dr Amir Khan showing how to safely put on and wear a face covering.
If you do not have to wear a face covering
People who have a reason for not wearing a face covering (if they are exempt) should not be routinely asked to give evidence of this. However it might be helpful to be able to show something on a phone, wear a badge or print out a card that can be shown to explain to others.
If you would like to use an exemption card, or an image you can display to people on your phone, you can download these from the GOV.UK website.
