Blood donation wanted from recovered Covid-19 patients
If you have you recovered from Covid-19, you may be able to help those who are still seriously ill with the disease.
NHS Blood and Transplant is leading a major programme, on behalf of the Government, to collect blood donations from those who have recovered and are now well.
It contains ‘convalescent plasma’ which may contain antibodies that their body has created to fight the coronavirus.
If this is transfused into someone who is ill, it can help them develop their own antibodies to the virus.
We know that the plasma from three groups of recovered people is most likely to be able to save lives – men, the over 35s, and people who needed hospital treatment.
We also know people with an Asian heritage also have particular have high levels of antibodies and are keen to hear from them.
If you think you can donate your plasma, call 0300 123 23 23 or visit www.nhsbt.nhs.uk
Relationship Matters
We are all spending longer periods of time with our loved ones and this is bound to bring about some added challenges. Whether couples together or separated the way they communicate can impact on their relationship and their children.
Disagreements and arguments are completely normal in family life, but if they are becoming a problem then help is at hand.
The Relationship Matters website gives everyone tips, information and help to stay calm, work out what needs to happen and signposting where you can get help if problems get worse, such as:
- Arguing, rows, shouting all the time
- Are they worried about splitting up?
- Is there sulking, silent treatment, slamming doors or walking away from each other?
- Are worries getting in the way of managing everyday life?
- If family members are not able to say sorry after an argument and move on.
- If a family is using hurtful texts, emails or Facebook against each other?

People asked to wear face coverings at GP practices
Following national guidance on wearing face coverings in a number of public spaces, and in hospitals, the local NHS is asking people to wear face coverings if they need to go to their GP practice for an appointment. The use of face coverings will help protect you, other patients in the waiting area, and staff.
Face coverings should not be used by children under the age of 3 or those who may find it difficult to manage them correctly, like those who may have respiratory conditions.
GP practices have already changed the way they are doing things to make it safer for patients to come into the surgery. Staff wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including face masks and wherever possible social distancing guidelines are maintained.
Most appointments are still happening over the phone or using video consultation, but patients are being seen face to face for urgent appointments, and for things like childhood vaccinations or cervical smear tests.
People are still asked to call ahead and not go to their GP practice unless advised.
The GOV.UK website includes information about wearing face coverings and how to make your own.
Local health, care, voluntary and local authority services are still here to help during the coronavirus pandemic. Services across Bradford district and Craven are working together to remind local people to still get in touch if they need help before their situation worsens as part of the #StillHereToHelp campaign.
