Safe using of face coverings
This week has seen the re-opening of those retailers selling non-essential items, under strict and safe covid-19 guidelines as defined by government, as well as it becoming mandatory for the public to wear face coverings on all public transport.
The risk element of contracting the virus is higher in enclosed spaces and the chances of adhering to social distancing guidelines is reduced. It is recommended to wear face coverings where social distancing is not possible for example when shopping for food or medication, when caring for vulnerable people in enclosed spaces
It is important to remember that face coverings are not the same as face masks. Face coverings are what the public are being encouraged to wear which can be made at home with left over pieces of material, an old t-shirt, scarf or a bandana which can be tied behind the head.
Public health team awarded extra £3.87m to reduce spread of COVID-19 in Bradford district
Public health experts in Bradford district have been awarded an extra £3.87 million to stay at the forefront of reducing the spread of COVID-19.
The Government money has been allocated to Bradford Council to support the local roll-out of NHS Test and Trace.
The national programme, launched at the end of last month, is instrumental in helping to control the virus by identifying the contacts of people who have tested positive for it.
The money will be used to work with communities across the district, as we all work to minimise the risk of Bradford people getting, or passing on, COVID-19
As the country and the district starts to emerge out of lockdown, the Council will have to be prepared for any outbreaks of infection that might occur. That includes identifying and helping to contain such outbreaks wherever they happen, and supporting residents and workplaces through such a time.
Bradford Council reinforces message for those shielding in their homes
The Government is currently in the process of reviewing the next steps in its shielding programme, where people who have been identified by the NHS as vulnerable and at high risk and who have been shielding since the coronavirus pandemic began.
An announcement is due to be made by the Secretary of State for Health very soon with regards to further plans for those that are shielding. Following the Government’s plans, those shielding will be contacted in writing by the NHS to outline what advice they should take based on the individual’s medical history.
There are over two million people shielding across the UK. Shielding is about protecting individuals who are at high risk and minimising the contact with other people by staying at home with the aim of reducing the risk of contracting coronavirus.
However, if people are shielding and are feeling anxious or worried about what the next steps of the programme might include, then the advice is to stay home and continue to utilise those support options that are already in place.
