High Street Historic Fund
Bedford has secured a £2 million share of a total £95 million, which is being used to help revive historic high streets across the UK. The successful bid will help transform disused and historic buildings into shops, houses and community centres, with the help of Historic England and local partners.
The funding will mainly be used to reveal the historic features of buildings across the high street, a reduction in traffic and bringing the wider community back into the area, helping to create a more vibrant, thriving town centre and restoring confidence in the future of the High Street.
With the increase of online shopping putting added pressure onto high street retailers, this project will go a long way to help retailers adapt to changing consumer habits and support the wider regeneration and attract future commercial investment.
