As part of our commitment to sustainable transport, Bedford Borough Council is proposing the installation of a new cycle and pedestrian bridge over the railway. It would segregate cyclists from the busy A4280 Bromham Road at the position of the railway bridge over the Midland Mainline.
The original plan for the Wixams development included the provision of a railway station. Following considerable delays and an absence of any progress on building a station through the planning process, Bedford Borough Council is proposing to step in and commit £14 million of capital funds to fill the funding gap and deliver the station. These funds would be recouped from a share of the fares through an agreement with the rail industry.
We are consulting on a document which sets out how the Council aims to bring long-term empty homes back into use. Together with our partners we seek innovative solutions to the problem and hence contribute towards increasing housing supply and improving local environments.
