Top tips to help keep your bins clean

Here are some top tips to help keep your bins clean:

  • Recycle as much as possible to reduce the amount of rubbish you need to put in the bin.
  • Reduce your food waste - around a third of all food we buy is thrown away. For ideas on how to reduce food waste, visit www.lovefoodhatewaste.com
  • Always bag your general rubbish before putting it in the bin.
  • Always keep your bin lid closed.
  • Squeeze air out of waste bags before securely tying and putting in the bin.
  • If possible, store your bins out of direct sunlight.
  • Clean/wash your bin out regularly using an anti-bacterial cleaner, disinfectant or bicarbonate of soda.
  • Double bag any pet waste and nappies before putting in the rubbish bin.
  • Mix different types of garden waste (such as clippings, grass cuttings and dry woody garden waste) before placing into the green lidded garden waste bin.
