There is now just over one month to go until the Clean Air Zone goes live on 1 June so before it launches, make sure you, your family and friends have:

  1. Checked if you will be charged
  2. Applied for a temporary exemption permit or financial incentive
  3. Checked how to pay or considered alternative travel habits

Business fleet payment demonstration video

Businesses with fleet vehicles to manage when the Clean Air Zone goes live can now add their payment details to their Clean Air Zone business fleet account. If you need help setting up your account, you can now watch a free video demonstrating the system.

Time running out for pre-launch exemption approvals

As we get closer to the launch of the zone, we are receiving a high volume of applications for temporary exemption permits. If you are eligible for a temporary exemption, please ensure you submit your application and all supporting evidence before 10 May 2021 to be guaranteed your permit in time for launch. We cannot guarantee applications submitted after this date will be approved before 1 June and therefore charges will apply. Please remember you are not exempt from the charges until you receive confirmation from us.

Announcement pending on Vehicle Scrappage and Travel Scheme

If you're eligible for a worker temporary exemption permit and have owned your vehicle since 10 September 2018, you may want to consider our Vehicle Scrappage and Travel Scheme. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can scrap your non-compliant vehicle and receive £2,000 off the cost of a compliant vehicle from Motorpoint or £2,000 in Swift travel credit from Transport for West Midlands. Applications for this scheme will open shortly; if you want to be the first to be notified make sure you register an expression of interest.

Birmingham Clean Air Zone Charging Order 2021 published

The Birmingham Clean Air Zone Charging Order 201 sets out the full details of how the Clean Air Zone will operate when it comes into operation on 1 June 2021. The document confirms the temporary and permanent exemptions available, how the council will approach any enforcement associated with non-payment of the Clean Air Zone daily fee and how it intends to use any income generated from the zone.

Clean Air Zone support grants for taxis surpass £1million mark

Since we opening the financial incentive support schemes for Birmingham-licensed taxi drivers in October, we are pleased to report we have paid out more than £1million in Clean Air Zone support grants to over 800 hackney and private hire drivers to upgrade or retrofit their vehicles.
