Birmingham 2022


Organisers of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games are looking for 2,022 local, young people to be part of the landmark moment when the Commonwealth Games handover from the Gold Coast to Birmingham takes place on 15 April. Get involved here.


The local election on 3 May will see the way you vote in Birmingham change. The number of city councillors will reduce – and all seats will be voted for this year. Our council wards will also change. If you’re not already a registered voter, it is really important that you do register to vote.


Birmingham’s first female councillor, Ellen Pinsent, has been honoured by having a room at Birmingham Council House dedicated in her name. Nominate Birmingham women who have inspired you and tell us why at: inspiringwomen@birmingham.gov.uk.


The council and the Birmingham Independent Improvement Panel have written a joint letter to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government about plans to work more collaboratively in reporting on the council’s progress to city residents.


Are you involved in a local group that you want to invite other Birmingham citizens to?  ConnecttoSupport is designed to put you in contact with citizens looking for goods and services. It’s easy to register your group.
The Birmingham site will be live on 1 April.


The IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championships was staged successfully in Birmingham last weekend. Despite adverse weather conditions, thousands of spectators attended and were treated to some fantastic performances.

World Cup Gymnastics comes to Birmingham on 21 and 22 March and, in recognition of the 2022 Commonwealth Games coming to the city, the organisers have offered Birmingham Bulletin subscribers tickets at £20.22 to the men’s event on 21 March. 


St Patrick’s Day celebrations take place at the annual Festival and Parade in Digbeth on 11 March.


This year’s Commonwealth Day celebrations in Birmingham on 12 March, will have particular significance in light of Birmingham being selected as the host city for the XXII Commonwealth Games in 2022.


The Independent Birmingham Festival takes place at The Bond, from 24-25 March. Enjoy food, drink, and design from independent retailers as well as a full programme of entertainment.
