Lord Mayor, former Lord Mayors, Cllrs and staff celebrate #vote100


A century on from the first UK women being given the vote, the council has revealed its plans for a series of events and projects to mark the anniversary, including a book to celebrate the lives of inspirational Birmingham women – and you can nominate who has inspired you.


The Great British Spring Clean – led by Keep Britain Tidy – takes place from 2 March. Last year, Birmingham saw 127 community clean-ups – with more than 2,500 volunteers, and 60 tonnes of waste collected. This year – we’re keen to beat this! Take part and log your event at greatbritishspringclean.org.uk.  


Get your garden waste taken away in a simple and convenient way by subscribing to the council’s garden waste collection service.


Working together to tackle domestic abuse: the council’s cabinet member for health and social care Cllr Paulette Hamilton talks about why it is everyone’s business - and you can read the council’s proposed domestic abuse prevention strategy.

Enjoy half-term activities at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and other Community Museums, Birmingham Botanical Gardens and mac birmingham.


The Vanley Burke Photographing Birmingham (1968-2011) exhibition, at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, from 10 Feb-1 July, documents the poignant and everyday moments of life in Birmingham. 


See in the Year of the Dog at the city’s annual Chinese New Year celebration in the Southside area of the city on 18 February, from 11.30am to 4.30pm.


February is LGBT History Month. Birmingham LGBT History Festival, at venues across the city, from 22-25 February, will explore the histories of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender communities in Britain.


BBC Asian Network has unveiled the line-up for Asian Network Live on 10 March at Arena Birmingham.


You could win a weekend break for two in Birmingham with Visit Birmingham. The closing date for entries is 12pm on 16 February.


Have you made it to a Birmingham Community Matters surgery yet? You could have an informal chat with someone who has experience of running community projects and voluntary groups at drop-in surgeries.

IAAF World Indoor Championships


Win a pair of tickets for the IAAF World Indoor Championships

Around 600 of the world’s best athletes, from 150 different countries, are coming to Arena Birmingham from 1 to 4 March, to compete in the IAAF World Indoor Championships - the biggest athletics event of 2018 and the largest indoor sports event that Birmingham has staged for 15 years!

For your chance to win one of two pairs of tickets (for two adults, or one adult and one concession) for the morning session on Friday 2 March, which includes the women’s 60m heats and three events from both the heptathlon and pentathlon, just answer this question:
