Gymnastics
Gymnasts Ellie Downie and Kristian Thomas


Birmingham’s Joe Fraser has his sights firmly set on next year’s gymnastics World Cup event in his home city after having his first taste of senior international competition at last week’s World Championships in Montreal. Tickets are now on sale for the event at Arena Birmingham on 21 and 22 March 2018. Wolverhampton’s own Kristian Thomas is also encouraging Midlands sports fans to get behind it.


Bin collections returned to a weekly service from 9 October. You can check your collection dates on the council website.


Are you preparing for your child to start school? Sign up to ‘Primary Sch Admissions 2018’ for email updates. If you’re a parent of a child who’s due to start school for the first time in 2018, or transfer from infant to junior school, the process to apply for school places closes on 15 January 2018.


Birmingham City Council's website has won a Gold award and a People’s Choice award at the Lovies, Europe’s leading awards organisation honouring excellence in design and user experience on the internet.


Did you know Birmingham City Council has grants available to help businesses grow?  If you come into contact with businesses that are looking to make expansion plans, tell them about the ERDF Business Growth Programme and The ERDF Property Investment Programme.

Diwali

 

Diwali on the Square is in Victoria Square on Saturday 14 October.


The inaugural Birmingham International Marathon takes place on Sunday 15 October, there will be some road closures, so check the website for details. The Simply Health Great Birmingham Run half marathon takes place on the same day.


The Fierce Festival of live art returns to the city from 16-22 October.


Tommy’s Passchendaele, a free music and theatre performance on 8 November, at the Bramall, University of Birmingham, commemorates the Centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele 1917 through the story of Tommy, a local soldier. Full details should be available soon at www.bramall.co.uk.


Find half-term activities at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and other local museums.


Enjoy half-term and Halloween fun at mac Birmingham; it’s ‘Spooktober at Birmingham Botanical Gardens; and there are activities at Martineau Gardens.


Check all things Halloween and  local bonfire and firework displays coming up in November.


October’s Black History Month continues with a range of events and activities.

Design Guide vision for Birmingham
