World Indoors 2018


Birmingham has welcomed a decision to recommend it as a Candidate City to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.


You can now apply to be a volunteer at Birmingham’s biggest indoor sports event for 15 years – the IAAF World Indoor Championships – which will be held at Arena Birmingham from 1 to 4 March. The closing date for applications is 29 September at 5pm.

Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust – the council’s house-building arm – plans to deliver 107 new homes for social rent and 24 new homes for sale on small sites such as former garages and pubs.

Weekender


Birmingham’s largest arts festival, Birmingham Weekender, is back in town from 22-24 September.


The Vélo Birmingham bike ride takes place on 24 September. There will be road closures and some significant diversions on the day so check the Network West Midlands travel advice and journey planner.


The 100 bears on the main Big Sleuth trail will come together one last time at a special Farewell Weekend at Eastside City Park. Open to the public on 6 October, 2pm to 6pm; 7 October, 10am to 6pm; and 8 October, 10am to 4pm (last admission 5pm Friday and Saturday, and 3pm on Sunday). Tickets for the Farewell Weekend are limited and expected to sell out fast, so visitors are urged to book early to avoid disappointment.
