People in Birmingham are being reminded to ensure their voices are heard in May’s elections for the very first West Midlands Mayor. Anyone wishing to vote must first be registered to do so – and the deadline for registration is 13 April 2017.


Work is well underway at the Embankment apartments – the first housing project to be developed for the private rental sector by Birmingham City Council’s wholly owned company – Inreach Birmingham Limited (Inreach).


Great development news for Birmingham with a £200m project to transform the former Birmingham Typhoo tea factory into Typhoo Wharf and plans have been unveiled for £350 million Birmingham Peddimore, one of the country's biggest industrial developments.


In a new partnership, the council’s Birmingham Trading Standards Team will vet any traders in England who want to be listed on the website ‘No Rogue Traders Here’. Consumers using the website and telephone number will be able to search for relevant tradespeople, confident they businesses listed are reputable.


Motorists using the M5 in the West Midlands need to plan ahead for a long period of road works. Highways England has started work to repair a 3km section of the motorway at Oldbury Viaduct – between junctions one and two. Find out more.


The Lord Mayor of Birmingham is asking Brummies to help raise money for charitable organisations which provide shelter, food and support to rough sleepers and the homeless.

Frontiers


Presented each year by Birmingham Conservatoire’s Composition Department, the Frontiers Festival, from 25 March-1 April, brings together leading names at the cutting edge of contemporary music.

Birmingham’s world renowned Flatpack Film Festival returns from 4-9 April with a diverse and eclectic programme.


Until 14 May, New Art West Midlands showcases some of the most exciting emerging artists in the region.  The exhibitions include brand new paintings, installation, sculpture, photography, video, animation and digital artworks, giving an insight into the latest trends in contemporary art.

Consultation – taxi and private hire vehicle emission standards
Birmingham City Council is currently consulting on proposals to introduce ‘emission standards’ for taxi and private hire vehicles. This consultation closes on 24 May. Find out more and have your say.
