The
council has approved a £183
million investment into its council housing including its stock of council properties and investment into other
programmes, such as adaptions, clearance and redevelopment costs.
A total of five Rio Olympic champions will be among 25
current global medallists competing at the world’s top indoor athletics
meeting, the Müller
Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham, on Saturday (18 February)
Birmingham is changing the way it allocates social housing. The new scheme will still ensure social housing is allocated to those most in need, but the new criteria will give people a more realistic view of whether they are likely to be made a housing offer.
Working in partnership with Birmingham City University, the
council has helped develop a pioneering new course called Property Development
& Planning. Young people aged between 18-24 who enrol on this course could
be eligible for coaching, mentoring, support with work placements and financial
support through the Building
Birmingham Scholarship.
Organisers of the IAAF World Indoor Championships Birmingham
2018 are using the opportunity that comes with hosting a major sporting event
to profile the city and celebrate some of our best known landmarks. Find out

After extensive public consultation, revised proposals for the council’s 2017/18 budget were discussed at cabinet on 14 February. The budget will go before Full Council on 28 February for final ratification.

proposals to improve parking in Digbeth
Digbeth is a well-established area with a
rich local history. There is currently high demand for on-street parking in the
area, with all day commuter parking presenting particular issues for local
businesses and residents. The council has developed proposals to
help manage and control on-street parking activity, encourage sustainable
travel into the city and make the area a safer, healthier and greener place for
residents, businesses, visitors and future investment.
