Kids Court


As 20mph limits come into effect across large parts of Birmingham, local school children have been taking speeding drivers to task at a Kids Court.


Plans to build more than 500 new houses and apartments for sale and rent including the redevelopment of the Bromford Estate, near the Fort shopping centre, will go before the council’s cabinet for approval on 18 October.


It’s National Adoption Week from 17-23 October. The children who are waiting for permanent families are usually in local authority care and living with foster carers. Can you offer a loving home and make a child’s future part of your future?


A report setting out Birmingham’s commitment to preventing domestic abuse is due to go to the city council’s cabinet on 18 October. The report looks at adults who are experiencing – or have experienced – domestic abuse, perpetrators, children exposed to it and how the general population can play their part in preventing it.


It’s poetry in motion for a professional boxer and a 17-year-old wordsmith who have become Birmingham Poet Laureate and Young Poet Laureate after a citywide search to find talented people to represent the city.

Diwali


Diwali celebrations take place from 12 noon on Sunday 16 October along Soho Road, Handsworth, and end at 6.30pm with the Diwali lights switch on.


There’ll be a sweet sensation at the city’s first chocolate festival on Saturday 22 October. It’s what chocoholics’ dreams are made of – and it’s free entry!


Families are being urged to introduce their children to the ‘best bits’ of Shakespeare during half term as part of a free regional tour, starting at the Library of Birmingham, on 22 October.


On your marks! General entries are now being taken for the Birmingham International Marathon 2017. The course will take in a number of the city’s most iconic landmarks before finishing in the city centre.  

The Great Birmingham Run – the city’s half marathon – is on Sunday 16 October. A number of rolling road closures and diversions will be in place. Find out details of bus service alterations.

Snow Hill consultation


Snow Hill public consultation

Proposals are currently being developed for improvement works to Snow Hill Square (the area around Snow Hill Station in the city centre) – and you’re invited to have your say.

The proposed improvements – which are planned to start in spring 2017 – include new high-quality paving, lighting, seating and soft landscaping including trees and decorative planting extending the square partially into Colmore Row.
