Get ready to have your say on 6 May
Ahead of voters in Bassetlaw going to the polls on May 6, Bassetlaw District Council is urging voters to get ready to vote.
There are Police and Crime Commissioner and County Council elections taking place on the day as well as Three District Council By-elections and Referendums for Five Neighbourhood Plans.
Polling stations will be safe places to vote and people voting in person are encouraged to keep themselves and others safe by:
- wearing a face covering
- bringing their own pen or pencil
- cleaning their hands when entering and leaving the polling station
- keeping a safe distance
- Voters should not attend the polling station if they have symptoms of COVID-19, or if they have been asked to self-isolate.
Anyone who develops symptoms or is asked to self-isolate shortly before polling day, has up to 5pm on polling day to apply for an emergency proxy vote. This allows them to nominate someone they trust to vote on their behalf.

As well as arranging repeat prescriptions, people are also being urged to only visit A&E or call 999 in a medical emergency.
A&E will be open over the bank holiday period for emergencies.
For medical advice or to access the GP out of hours service contact NHS 111 who will direct you to the right service, or you can visit a local pharmacist for advice on treating everyday ailments.

Three Sisters Planting Competition
2021 is the 400th anniversary of the harvest feast that became known as the First Thanksgiving in America; at that feast, pilgrims who came from our area ate the new crops they had been taught to grow by the Native Americans. These were corn (maize), beans and squash.
The Native Americans had a tradition that these three plants were inseparable sisters who would only thrive together, and they are still used in companion planting today. This year we’re running two competitions, one for individuals & families and one for schools & groups, so your chances of winning the grand prizes are greater than ever. The challenge is to grow corn, beans and squash together in England and make them flourish as they did in Massachusetts 400 years ago.
