Face Coverings now Mandatory in Shops
From today (24th July 2020) face coverings are required to be worn in all shops, including food shops and supermarkets, indoor shopping centres, banks, building societies, and post offices. The rules also apply to public transport and include bus stations, railway stations and airports. For the full guidance visit www.gov.uk
Please remember that face coverings are mainly intended to protect others, not the wearer, from coronavirus and they are not a replacement for social distancing and regular hand washing.
There are lots of different types of face coverings available and we would like to encourage people to use re-useable ones where possible. Research by UCL calculated that if every person in the UK used one single-use face mask each day for a year, it would create 66,000 tonnes of contaminated plastic waste.
It is also important to make sure face coverings are washed or disposed of correctly. Once removed, store reusable face coverings in a plastic bag until you have an opportunity to wash them. If the face covering is single use, please put it in the general waste bin. Do not put them in the recycling.

August start for new Environmental Wardens
Bassetlaw District Council is upping its commitment to making our district a cleaner and safer place to live, work and visit by targeting people who deliberately drop litter and fail to clean up after their dog.
The Council will be taking a firmer approach to littering and dog fouling by introducing Environmental Enforcement Officers across the district, who from August will have the powers to issue Fixed Penalty Notices of up to £100 should they witness people littering or failing to clean up after their dog.

Are you bin smart?
Do you know what can go in your blue bin? We are currently getting a lot of contamination in our blue bins with non recyclables being added. If the contamination gets too high, this can see whole bin wagon loads of recycling being sent to landfill. Please do not put your recycling in plastic bags as these are often made from end of life plastic that can not be recycled.

Recycling updates
From the beginning of August collections will be restarting from the Textile recycling banks across the district.
A big thank you to all residents who have been recycling their glass during lockdown. Although it has been a difficult period for everybody, Bassetlaw residents have recycled 55% more glass from April to June than last year.
