Donate to support our borough's casual workers

Keep the lights on

Over Christmas, The Mayor’s Charity Appeal Trust  launched the ‘Keep the lights on’ appeal to raise funds in support of our borough’s casual workers, in a period where they have missed out on working due to coronavirus restrictions.

Normally they would be in the busiest time of their year, doing extra shifts and gaining festive tips, but instead they are unable to work or gain access to financial support from the government.

When launching the appeal Basildon was under Tier 4 restrictions, and with the country now in a national lockdown, the future for casual workers within the hospitality remains uncertain, and the need for them to be supported increases.

Thank you to those of you who have been able to donate so far. Let’s continue to pull together and show our support for our casual workers, to help them to prosper in 2021.

Enes

Local restaurateur Enes owns the Plush Restaurant in Wickford. At this time of year, he would usually have an additional ten casual staff working for him.

Hear from him about the impact the pandemic has had on his business, and how its affected the casual staff he would usually have employed, but hasn't been able to this year.

Still time to take part in our play areas consultation

Play areas

Basildon Council has launched a public consultation on our borough's play areas to hear your experiences of using them as part of the council's Play Review.

The consultation will give residents an opportunity to provide your thoughts on the proposals and how they may affect you. The information you send us will be used to help shape the future provision of outdoor play facilities across the borough.

Please respond before the consultation closes on Sunday 31 January 2021.
