Basildon's Bouncing Back!

YT

Basildon town centre is transforming from a shopping centre into a vibrant, mixed community with new cultural and entertainment facilities.

The investments will benefit residents and businesses, making Basildon the place to be and the economic powerhouse of the south east.

On Tuesday, councillors agreed a Basildon First Charter that means if any developer wants to build in Basildon, they have to agree to a set of principles that put our residents and businesses first.

The town centre regeneration is an opportunity to put Basildon on the map for all the right reasons. To celebrate the art and culture of our town, give people a chance to get on the housing ladder with affordable homes and re-introduce nightlife and quality retail into the town.

All of this will be done alongside improving the community safety within Basildon, to make the town centre not only a vibrant, exciting place to go, but also a safe place to work, live and visit.

Hear from local residents, town centre workers, retailers, businesses and key workers about the reimagining of Basildon town centre and how Basildon is bouncing back!

The future is being built right now.

Essex's first Youth Zone is coming to Basildon!

yt

Last week, West Ham United’s Captain Mark Noble visited Basildon to speak to Council Leader Councillor Gavin Callaghan about Essex’s first ever OnSide Youth Zone.

With a site secured in the heart of Basildon Town Centre, Essex's first ever OnSide Youth Zone is coming to Basildon.

Youth Zones offer young people the opportunity to develop new skills and interests with engaging activities in a safe environment with their friends, alongside professional team members to help make the experience as enriching as possible.

There's a wide range of activities available to take part in at Youth Zones -  from sporting activities, to gaming, to learning musical instruments - and so much more.

They are also designed to be affordable for anyone. At the moment, existing Onside Youth Zones costs just 50p each time you visit - and you can get a fresh hot meal for just £1.

We want Basildon's Youth Zone to be designed specifically to benefit our young people. That's why we've launched our consultation - and we are asking 8-19 year olds to complete it so that they can help shape exactly what it will become.

Everyone who completes the survey will also be in with a chance of winning a £25 Amazon voucher and £100 for their school. Take part by Sunday, 6 December 2020.

Pitsea's Town Centre Radio Link Scheme

Radio link

You raised concerns, we listened. And so the Pitsea Town Centre Radio Link Scheme is now going live.

The scheme involves the purchasing and distribution of radios to independent businesses and charities in the Pitsea area, as well as the necessary infrastructure to make the linkage between those businesses happen.

The radio link will provide a secure way for retailers to quickly share information with each other and the Essex Police Community Policing Team, and was introduced in response to a group of Pitsea retailers raising concerns with councillors regarding anti-social behaviour, shoplifting and broader disruption to shops in the area.

The scheme launched on Tuesday, 10 November with only essential retailers participating, but the broader range of retailers will have the option of joining the initiative once government restrictions have eased.

The scheme will benefit businesses through being able to liaise with eachother and the police to help tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, and residents by having a safer Pitsea Town Centre to enjoy.
