How do support bubbles work?

bubble

The Government has announced that from 13 June, you will be able to form a ‘support bubble’ with one other household if you live alone or are a single parent with dependent children - in other words, you are in a household where there is only one adult. Inside your support bubble you will be able to act as if you live in the same household – you can spend time together inside each other’s homes and do not need to stay 2 metres apart.

You can only be in one support bubble - you should not switch the household you are in a bubble with or bubble with more than one household

From 13 June you will also be able to attend your place of worship for the purposes of individual prayer.

What you can do from 15 June:

  • You will be able to visit any type of shop and some additional outdoor attractions - drive-in cinemas, zoos and safari parks
  • You will have to wear a face covering on public transport

You are still be able to meet outdoors with groups of up to six people from different households, provided social distancing is observed and you stay 2 metres away from anyone outside your household or support bubble.

Reopening of shops - Shop Local, Shop Safe

shop

We are supporting our high Street shops as they begin to reopen from Monday, 15 June and working with local retailers to ensure a smooth recovery in our towns over the months ahead.

Our Shop Local Shop Safe campaign has been launched to support local retailers to get ready to reopen safely and shoppers to feel safe when using our shopping areas from next week.

When shopping, please follow these five pointers to ensure you and others around you have safe shopping experience:

  1. Maintain social distancing
  2. Be patient when queuing
  3. Avoid shopping at peak times
  4. Keep your hands as clean as possible
  5. If you can, wear a face mask

Additional plans to support the reopening of our shops include marking and signage of our shopping areas, support from teams of our staff to help shoppers navigate changes in pedestrian flows and queuing in particular, as well as communication through the council's social media channels and in the local media.

Basildon incinerator proposals - consultation closes tomorrow

incin

The council is opposing plans to build two 20 megawatt incinerators on the Burnt Mills Industrial Estate, Archers Fields in Basildon.

Private waste management company Clearaway has written to residents in the area asking them for their views on the proposals before it submits a planning application to Essex County Council.

In response, councillors have made it clear they have very serious concerns over the impact the proposed plant would have on air quality and would oppose the plans. The incinerator would be right next to the area that is already subject to a Government directive to improve air quality and on which the Government has threatened to impose a charging Clean Air Zone.

We are encouraging all residents to respond to the consultation before the deadline tomorrow, on Friday 12 June.
