Recycling centres open but expect delays

Recycling centre image

Barleylands Recycling Centre is open with strict social distancing measures in place to ensure the safety of the public and staff.

There is a one in, one out policy and members of the public may be asked to queue when accessing the site, which could cause delays.

Staggered visits are being advised and the public are being asked to only visit if items being disposed of could cause a hazard if left at home.

Pitsea Recycling Centre, which is run by Essex County Council, is also open under similar restrictions, which are likely to result in long waiting times.

Basildon Council would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their patience and continued understanding.

All kerbside collections are still taking place and special collections are available.

Special collections

Following a risk assessment based on COVID-19 social distancing guidelines it has been decided that special collection of armchairs cannot be made without risk to our collections team. For that reason the special collection of armchairs has been suspended until further notice.
PLEASE NOTE: Any armchairs booked online as 'chairs' will not be collected.

Have you downloaded 'Our Street Basildon'?

app

Confused about bin days? Or perhaps you want to check which rubbish goes in which collection?

The “Our Streets Basildon” waste and recycling app is now available to download. All you need is an android device and away you go (news on the Apple release will be available soon).

The app was created in partnership with students from the University of Essex and can be used to find information about rubbish and recycling in your area.

Please watch our youtube video to learn more about the app and what it does.

Download the app from the google play store here.

Please use our recycling banks responsibly

It’s great that people are continuing to recycle but please remember to do this responsibly by following social distancing guidelines.

Always ensure you are two metres or more away from anybody else and use these facilities at sensible times during the day.

Using the recycling banks too early in the morning or late at night could disturb neighbouring residents. Please remember to not leave any waste on the floor around the recycling banks as this would be flytipping and could result in a fine.

If you notice a full recycling bank please report it to recycling@basildon.gov.uk
