Did you know Diwali is happening on 4th November?
Diwali is a festival of lights and one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists. The festival lasts five days and is celebrated from late October through to early November. The third day of Diwali will be celebrated on Thursday 4th November this year.
The Festival of Lights celebrates the victory of light over darkness. Hindus light small lamps filled with oil called Diyas. This is done on the night of the new moon to welcome the goddess of wealth Lakshmi. The Diyas are lit and placed in rows to light up homes, streets and rivers. Families decorate their houses, buy small items of gold and celebrate with candles, fireworks and sweets.

Hygge for Wellbeing
Hygge is the Danish concept of living in the moment, embracing the simple things and being with friends and family. It's believed to be the reason Danish people are so happy compared to the rest of the world. The Happiness Research Centre is actually located in Copenhagen, Denmark - so they definitely know their stuff when it comes to self-care!
Why not harness the power of this simple idea and use it to improve your wellbeing this winter? There are lots of ideas on the Hygge in the Early Years website. One of their suggestions is to create a cosy nook for reading your favourite books this Winter.
P.S. Children will love a book nook too! Check out our Learn, Inspire, Create & Watch feature to get instructions for creating your very own cosy kids book corner.

Keep Cosy and Socialise
Last year, we all became familiar with socialising outdoors in Winter. Even though restrictions aren't that tight right now, getting outdoors should still be our top priority! There is so much evidence that being outdoors has positive effects on our health and wellbeing.
As the days grow shorter, it's even more important that we get out there to make the most of that Vitamin D stimulating sunlight. So why not take advantage of this natural wellbeing booster and socialise outdoors this Winter? If you need ideas for how to keep your family cosy in the Winter months, read these top tips from the National Childbirth Trust. You can also read this article to learn why it's important for children to play outside too!
