Cambridge Road Update
Friends and neighbors,
Eastbound traffic on Cambridge Road will shift from the south side of the road to the newly paved north side at Townhouse Drive on Monday, Dec. 5 at 8 a.m. weather permitting. Drivers will move back to the south side of Cambridge Road just before Potomac Drive. The shift is needed for demolition of the south side of the roadway to make the area ready for new asphalt pavement.
Cambridge Road will remain a one way, one lane road for eastbound traffic only. NO westbound traffic from Townhouse Drive to the barricade at McClenny Drive.
Residents who live on the south side of Cambridge Road, Bishops Gate Lane, Southland Drive and Radcliff Drive will continue to use the existing pavement for eastbound travel until their access road or driveway is cut to match the newly paved elevation.
The intersection at Yale Drive and Columbia Drive will also open back up for use.
Contractors will begin setting up the new traffic configuration at 8 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 5 and continue working to reconfigure the roadway throughout the day. Drivers can expect some delays as the new configuration is set up.
The City of Tyler urges drivers to drive slow in the construction zone and obey all traffic signs in the area. Absolutely NO westbound travel is authorized on the one-lane, one-way stretch of Cambridge Road. Detours are in place and will be enforced.
Your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated as the construction progresses. This extensive project will greatly improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety, drainage, and water and sewer services in your neighborhood.

The Cambridge Road improvement project is 67 percent complete with scheduled completion in the fall of 2023, weather permitting.
The roadway improvements will span the entire distance between South Broadway Avenue and Jeff Davis Drive. Cambridge Road will be widened and a center turn lane will be marked for easier side road and driveway access. Sidewalks will also be installed against the curb along both sides of Cambridge Road. In addition, East Heritage Drive at Broadway will be widened to allow for a right turn only turn lane.
The utilities improvements include the installation of a large water line from Broadway Avenue to Jeff Davis Drive. There will also be various sanitary sewer improvements along the path of the project.
Storm sewer improvements include the installation of storm sewer lines along the north and west sides of Cambridge Road, from Yale Drive to McClenny Drive and from Bishops Gate to the drainage channel east of Potomac Drive. Additionally, storm sewer improvements will be made along Harvard Drive, Clemson Drive, and Oxford Drive.
The existing channel east of Potomac Drive will be cleaned up, and the first 166 feet south of the channel and 33 feet north of the channel will be converted to a concrete channel to minimize erosion.
