City adopts redistricting plan
On Wednesday, Dec. 8 the Tyler City Council unanimously voted to adopt the final redistricting plan that establishes new boundaries for single-member council districts based on 2020 Census data as well as to amend the Tyler City Code Chapter 1.
The newly approved redistricting plan includes limited geographical shifts and was drawn in an effort to attain proportionate representation in each of the six single-member districts while complying with all applicable federal and state redistricting laws.

City of Tyler signs on to Texas opioid settlement
The Tyler City Council voted to approve a resolution to sign onto a statewide opioid settlement during its Dec. 8 meeting. Signing onto the settlement allows the city to receive up to $723,829 over the next 18 years for local opioid-abatement programs.
These funds come as part of two settlement agreements entered into by the state of Texas. One settlement is with opioid manufacturer Johnson & Johnson. The other is three major pharmaceutical distributors: AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health, and McKesson. Texas counties and cities, can sign onto the agreement and receive a portion of the funds.
City Council approves updates to outdoor burning provisions
The Tyler City Council approved an ordinance amending Tyler City Code Chapter 6 by updating and amending the outdoor burning provisions in the 2015 International Fire Code as well as adopting a new Outdoor Burning Permit and Fee.
The amendment keeps the general prohibition for no outdoor burning inside City limits, but allows for more exceptions:

Council approves contracts for Consent Decree support, CCTV analysis, cleaning of sewer lines
On Wednesday, Dec. 8, the City Council voted to renew a $1.25 million staff support services contract with Pipeline Analysis LLC., for support of Consent Decree requirements and the Wastewater Collection System’s Capacity, Management, Operations, and Maintenance Program (CMOM).
The City Council also approved a $1,895,000 BuyBoard contract with Vortex Services, LLC for the cleaning and closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording of wastewater lines and approved a resolution reserving the right to reimburse $427,000 of the expenditures with proceeds of future debt.
