TEA's 2020 Annual Report

The Texas Education Agency is pleased to announce the release of its 2020 Annual Report to the general public. This report details the progress and advancements taking place in Texas’s more than 1,200 public school systems and serves as a helpful resource for illustrating areas where Texas must maintain its investment in ensuring every student is prepared for success in college, a career, or the military.

Texas AmplioSpeech Dyslexia Digital Intervention Platform

Utilizing proven curricula in English and Spanish, the AmplioSpeech platform offers interactive, multisensory activities for groups of students, whether they are onsite or online. Interventionists can use AmplioSpeech to provide differentiated, individualized therapy, easily selecting modules, specific vocabulary words or sounds, and general concepts. The platform, which utilizes advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP), can also function as an extension of the interventionist, assessing student responses and providing visual and audio cues to support the lesson. TEA is covering the cost of the platform, including unlimited seats, for all Texas local education agencies (LEAs).

These quick reference documents can be used by both general and special educators to identify support options that meet individual student support needs.

Parent Resource: Designated Supports Available for STAAR, STAAR Spanish, and TELPAS

This guide, available in both English and Spanish, provides parents with a general overview of the designated supports that are available for use on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) and the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS). Designated supports are accommodations that change the way a student accesses an assessment, without changing the content being assessed. Online Learning Modules

STAAR Alternate 2 Eligibility - TEA's Student Assessment Division has developed a new supplemental training module to provide guidance to Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committees when determining who is eligible for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) Alternate 2.

Universal Design for Learning - Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework that offers an approach to designing a learning environment that considers the wide range of learner variability. (Can receive up to 30 CPEs for all 5 modules.)

Special Education Informed Consent – The Child Find, Evaluation, and ARD Supports Network recently posted the Special Education Informed Consent  Online Training Module. This resources provide information regarding the legal requirements and best practice for local education agencies to follow when obtaining informed consent for conducting Full and Individual Initial Evaluations (FIIEs), reevaluations when additional data is necessary, and initiating special education and related services.

Evidence Based Practices for the Education of Students with Down Syndrome

The Texas Complex Access Network (TXCAN) has made available a new training, Evidence Based Practices for the Education of Students with Down Syndrome, worth 6 CPEs. This training was developed as a result of a statewide stakeholder meeting of parents of children who have Down syndrome. Parents identified priorities for the education of their children. Training topics include inclusion supports, strategies for teaching academic and functional skills, and promoting pro-social behaviors.
