Texas STEM Announcements
A Focus on Pre-K-12 STEM Education
The Texas Education Agency conducted wide spread STEM Education research including a literature review, a national STEM study, and the TEA Listening Tour during 2018-2019 to inform STEM education in Texas. According to labor projections, Texas is expected to have the second-highest percentage of the nation’s future STEM job opportunities. To ensure our Texas students are prepared for this future workforce, The Texas Education Agency is vertically aligning efforts to allow earlier exposure to STEM integrated thinking across curriculum starting in elementary.
The Texas Education Agency announces the state-wide definition for Pre-K-20 STEM Education:
The Texas Education Agency has defined STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education as a method of hands-on teaching and learning where students learn to apply academic content by creatively solving real-world problems with innovative design-based thinking to prepare students for future career opportunities. This definition is aligned to the national STEM research as well as the 2018 federal definition for STEM education released in the executive report, Charting a Course for Success: America's Strategy for STEM Education.
