Texas’ Ed-Flex Authority Extended for 2018-2019

Texas has received approval from the U.S. Department of Education to continue its Ed-Flex waiver authority under the Education Flexibility Partnership Act of 1999, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA). A statewide letter dated July 13, 2018, provides details on the types of waivers available and how LEAs can apply for the waivers.

Individual Programmatic Waivers

Individual programmatic waivers provide LEAs and campuses flexibility in the use of federal program funds based on the barriers preventing student achievement. To request an individual programmatic waiver, LEAs must submit a separate Ed-Flex waiver application. The Ed-Flex waiver application is available on the TEA Ed-Flex web page.

The deadline for applying for an individual programmatic waiver for 2018-2019 is August 13, 2018, for a start date of October 1, 2018. Ed-Flex Waiver applications received after the August 13 deadline will not be considered for the 2018-2019 school year.
