Today the Department of
Contracts, Grants and Financial Administration released the 2017-2018 Hurricane
Relief Grants Application Part 1. This
short application and data collection will form the basis of two new hurricane
relief grants:
- Assistance
to Homeless Children and Youth Grants, and
- Temporary
Emergency Impact Aid for Displaced Students Grants.
This Part 1 application is
due to TEA by Tuesday, May 15, 2018.
This application deadline is set by USDE and TEA has minimal flexibility
to extend it. The application will be submitted online through a new system and
allows for electronic signature.
LEAs and ESCs did an
outstanding job in collecting and reporting the crisis codes to track the
students impacted by the hurricanes.
While we were able to use the weekly reporting data in total for the
Hurricane Restart grant (the Restart application will release next week) and
for some of the reporting requirements for these two new grants, TEA did not
know what USDE would require and did not collect the data in the exact same
manner and timelines that USDE is requiring the state to report.
The online Part 1
Application is accessible on the TEA Grant Opportunities web page under the
heading “2017-2018 Hurricane Relief Grant Part 1” as well as training materials
and other application resources. Part 2
of the application process is expected to be released to LEAs in the summer
after USDE makes the grant awards to the state and LEA allocations can be
calculated. Part 2 will include basic budgetary and use of funds information.
Part 1 of the application must be submitted to be eligible to submit the Part 2
application and receive funding.
If you have questions
regarding this Part 1 application, please contact Department of Contracts,
Grants and Financial Administration staff at grantapplications@tea.texas.gov
or (512) 463-8992.
