Upcoming Information Session: Hurricane Harvey Assistance
TEA recently received notice of the 2018–2019 Hurricane
Harvey Emergency Impact Aid (Harvey EIA) grant. USDE has set a short timeline
for LEAs to apply to TEA for these grant funds, and TEA has no authority to
extend any deadlines.
Two additional Harvey grants are planned for release soon,
one targeting homeless students and a Restart grant for schools that suffered Harvey-related
physical damage. Details on those grants are still forthcoming from TEA.
Harvey EIA Grant Release and Deadline Dates
TEA expects to release the Harvey EIA grant application on or
before Monday, May 7, 2018. The
application is due to TEA no later than Tuesday,
May 15, 2018.
Upcoming Information Session
TEA will provide training on the Hurricane Harvey relief grant
applications and program requirements, including some unique private school
requirements, as follows:
- ESC 4 (Houston), Monday, May 7, 2018, 9 a.m. to
noon. The training will be streamed to all ESCs.
In addition to addressing the Harvey EIA grant
that is due to TEA by May 15, 2018, the session will include basic information
on the Harvey Homeless and Restart grants.
This session is open to all grant-related positions and is
strongly recommended for CFOs, business managers, and grant coordinators. Contact
your regional ESC for more information on availability of the session.
Preparing to Apply
The following basic information about the Harvey EIA grant
is intended to help LEAs prepare for the application.
Eligible Harvey EIA Grant Applicants
The Harvey EIA grant may be awarded to any LEA that enrolled
students displaced by Hurricane Harvey if the student was enrolled the week
before the hurricane in an LEA or private school in one of the 254 LEAs
identified in the Presidential Disaster Declaration. (The list of 254 LEAs will
be posted to the TEA website with the application materials.)”
Application Process
The agency is working to simplify the application process
for LEAs. In addition to the usual submissions via mail or delivery, TEA will
accept applications via email. While the emailed application may be signed by
hand and then scanned, applicants may also choose to sign with an Adobe Digital
ID. The grant application materials will include instructions on how to create
an Adobe Digital ID.
