2017-2018 Project SERV Hurricane Recovery Grant Deadline Extension and Additional Guidance

Deadline Extended

For those LEAs located in counties identified in the Presidential Disaster Declaration that are eligible to receive funding under the 2017-2018 Project SERV Hurricane Recovery Grant, the grant application deadline has been extended to February 23, 2018, 5:00 p.m. Central Time. If you need additional time after February 23 to submit your application, please contact Christina Villarreal at grants@tea.texas.gov.

Eligible LEAs

A list of eligible LEAs and funding amounts are available here:

2017-2018 Project SERV Hurricane Relief Grant Amounts by ESC (PDF)

Accessing the Application

To access the grant application and supporting materials, go to the TEA Grant Opportunities page and select “2017-2018 Project SERV Hurricane Recovery Grant” from the ‘Application Name’ drop down box. It is listed alphabetically.

Once you get to the page for the Project SERV grant, the paper application and instructions can be found in the section called ‘Application and Support Information’. Once completed, the application must be mailed to TEA. Mailing instructions are listed on the first page of the application at the top.

General Allowable Activities

The Program Guidelines for the 2017-2018 Project SERV Hurricane Recovery Grant outline general allowable activities under three specific categories:

  • Counseling
  • Substitutes and Other Staff
  • Transportation and Other Costs

If you select an activity already pre-printed under one of these categories, it can be quickly approved during the negotiation process. However, if you indicate an activity in your application under “other”, TEA must consult with the U.S. Department of Education to determine whether it is allowable under the grant. This will delay the processing of your application. Please carefully review both the allowable and unallowable activities listed in the Program Guidelines.
