TEA is announcing the availability of grant funds for the 2018–2019 Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) and Industry Cluster Innovative Academies (ICIA) Planning grant program. Request for Application (RFA) #701-18-102 is authorized by the General Appropriations Act, Article III, Rider 67, 85th Texas Legislature and Texas Education Code Chapters 29.551-29.556 (P-TECH) and General Appropriations Act, Article III, Rider 49, 85th Texas Legislature, Texas Education Code Chapter 29.908, and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Dislocated Workers (WIOA) Chapter 17.278 and Adult Activities Chapter 17.258 (ICIA). Eligibility

Eligible applicants include local educational agencies (LEAs) that:

  • Serve students in Grades 9–12; or
  • Will begin serving students in Grade 9 or students in Grades 9 and 10 in the first year of implementation (2019–2020) and will progressively scale up by adding at least one grade level per year.

Recipients of the 2016–2018 Industry Cluster Name Innovative Academy – The Next Generation of ECHS (RFA #701-16-108) are not eligible for the 2018–2019 P-TECH and ICIA Planning Grant.


Grant Period

  • February 23, 2018, to June 15, 2019

Funding

  • A total of approximately $1,000,000 is available for this grant program.
  • It is anticipated that approximately 20 grants will be awarded
  • Grant awards are expected to be up to $50,000 each.


Description

The purpose of the 2018–2019 P-TECH and ICIA Planning Grant Program is to solicit grant applications from eligible applicants who, upon receipt of the grant, will engage in 16 months of planning with support from TEA’s selected technical assistance provider to establish the foundational components of the P-TECH or ICIA campus, as outlined in Texas Education Code (TEC), Chapters 29.511-29.556 (P-TECH) or 29.908 (ICIA). Grantees will be required to serve students in the P-TECH or ICIA program beginning in the 2019–2020 school year.


Application Deadline

Applications must be received by the Texas Education Agency by 5:00 p.m. (Central Time), January 9, 2018, to be considered for funding.
