Competitive Grant Opportunity Published on the TEA Grant Opportunities Page

TEA is announcing the availability of grant funds for the 2017–2018 Perkins Reserve Grant program. Request for Application (RFA) #701-17-103 is authorized by Title I, Part A, Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006, Public Law 109-270, Section 112(a)(1) (the Act). The RFA is available on the TEA Grant Opportunities Page.

 

Eligibility

An LEA or an area career and technical education (CTE) school that receives assistance under Section 131 of the Act; and has been awarded a formula grant for the 2017–2018 school year and meets one of the following criteria:

  • Local CTE programs in rural areas; or
  • CTE programs with high numbers of CTE students; or
  • CTE programs with high percentages of CTE students

Grant Period

  • November 13, 2017, through August 31, 2018.
  • Continuation funding is expected to be available contingent on federal appropriations.

 

Funding

  • Approximately $5,473,295 is available for this grant program.
  • It is anticipated that approximately 90 grants will be awarded, divided between four Focus Areas.
  • Grant awards are expected to range from $10,000 to $75,000.

Description

The purpose of this grant program is to provide assistance to LEAs in

a) the preparation of students who enroll in CTE courses for high-skill, high-wage, or high-demand occupations in current or emerging fields;

b) strengthening linkages between secondary and postsecondary CTE programs of study as well as establishing or strengthening partnerships with business and industry;

c) establishing or strengthening partnerships with business and industry to include work-based learning opportunities;

d) fostering innovation of CTE programs, practices, and strategies, which may include practices and strategies that prepare individuals for nontraditional fields; or

e) promoting the development, implementation, and adoption of programs of study or career pathways aligned with Texas-identified in-demand occupations or industries.

Application Deadline

Applications must be received by the Texas Education Agency in the Document Control Center by 5:00 p.m. (Central Time), September 26, 2017, to be considered for funding.
