Holiday Lights Tips

Proper disposal of holiday lights

If you have curbside recycling, you should not put string lights in the bin. Holiday lights contaminate the waste stream and tangle up recycling machinery.

Instead, start by contacting your local municipal waste management program and ask for instructions. Some cities host bulk holiday light collection events.

Handwashing Awareness Week

Handwashing with soap and water

National Handwashing Awareness Week was December 1-7. To commemorate this week, we encourage you to continue washing your hands during these uncertain times. While also being conscious of how much water you're using too.

The Center for Disease Control also has great educational resources for washing your hands. Check them out and share these resources with your family and friends.

Ugly Sweater Photo Contest

Ugly sweater contest graphic

'Tis the season for ugly sweaters! Instead of buying new ugly sweaters this year, why not reuse last year's or buy secondhand? They aren't getting any prettier!

To enter, comment on the Take Care of Texas “Ugly Sweater Contest” Facebook post and tag three friends! To be entered twice, you can share your own ugly sweater photo - the uglier the sweaters, the better!

One lucky Texan who comments on the post and tags their friends by December 21 will be selected at random to win a $100 gift card, provided by H-E-B. (See rules)
